| Launch of Citrix's XenClient in 2nd half of 2009 A new competitor in the virtual desktop arena will be launched by Citrix in the 2nd half of 2009 by the name of XenClient (known before as Project Independant) IMHO this new product will become a serious contender to products like VMware Workstation and also for WMware Fusion for Mac Desktops (yes, it has been demonstrated running on a Mac OS X as a Type 1 Hypervisor, hence it is expected to run faster than VMware and Parallel's with Mac OS X) I read publications that this Desktop Virtualization software will become available free of charge, for download and for use. Same as XenServer 5.x, the server platform. See here: Citrix Systems » Products » -- XenDesktop » XenClient Independence » XenDesktop - Citrix Community And see here the link to a demonstration by Dr Ian Pratt, the director of the Xen virtualization research and development group at Citrix (he is the original developer, who started Xen at the University of Cambridge, UK): http://community.citrix.com/blogs/ci...lient+Device(s) |

| Re: Launch of Citrix's XenClient in 2nd half of 2009 Yes, it will be free of charge according this publication: Citrix Project Independence is now XenClient and will be free | virtualization.info XenClient will compete against the approx. USD 120,- VMWare Workstation v6 edition. Citrix's slogan: "Your company will spend more on coffee and office supplies than it does on desktop management." So good. |
