Something's fishy ...

I don't feel too good about all these new member posts being made recently. All of them are extremely badly punctuated, everybody has <10 posts, and their user names are all small ....

After making these posts, these members seem to disappear.

You guys can be honest with me, please tell me if I'm being paranoid.

You're not. Unless we both are.

I'm with you sammy.

Spammers do that. Here at ABX when someone joins they can just go ahead and tell us about their new computer build or problem or overclock or latest good game. ... And say hello.

To come in say hello and make only one post and disappear forever ... well, I can do without that. If they stick around ... absolutely great.

Re: Something's fishy ...

I don't get it - why bother at all if that's all they are going to do. I'll admit to signing up at a few forums thinking I would get involved but never really did, but this feels like there is more to it.
I won't waste much time worrying about it, our lightning fast crew (kONGO) will spring into action...

Well, they probably don't realize when they register and make their one post that they still can't post their spam links in their sigs or whatever other method they may choose.

Still think new users need to list a valid home address and phone number.

This would make sense to me, but send a notification first and give them 30 days to log on. And if the notification email bounces back, you can delete the account immediately. This is, of course, assuming the accounts can be deleted without losing any content that they posted on the site (which I don't think can be done, can it?).

Re: Something's fishy ...

Well, Ive been a member since 2001 or something and dont have the posts to show for it , mainly because of the level of confidents I have in myself, and not wanting to post the wrong info and screwing someone up. However,I have been a little more active lately. And it does seem like when I do have useful info to share with the person, they ask a ? never to be heard from again!

Anyway! There is a message on top when I have not logged on for sometime that says I have not posted for a while.
