The Australian Federal Government has now set its sights on gamers, promising to use its internet censorship regime to block websites hosting and selling video games that are not suitable for 15 year olds...

They can do that? Yet we can't stop the spread of unsolicited porn, Chinese, African & eastern European spam/scam brigades, etc.

sure, we have a strong section of politics that wants to regulate the net for all sorts of reasons. This is just one of them.

Personally, I feel this should be the responsibility of parents. I'm not comfortable with government dictating what web sites and information I should and should not have access to.

What we need is a piece of software, similiar to what the Chinese are doing, that parents can install and manage on their PC's. It should work just like an AV program. There are some available but they need to be supported more by the big players so that they are fully reliable.

I wouldnt trust the Chinese program of course They need to go open source on that one.
