| Automotive: snow tire sale whoopsie? Hmm...I'm thinking I may just have made a mistake. I sold my Honda Civic, and I sold my four snow tires seperately. These are Toyo Observe snow tires (absolutely fantastic, I loved them) and I had 4 rims with them. The tires were professionally mounted to the rims and balanced. The tires had 20 000 km on them. I'm guessing you could easily put 40 000 km more on them. I paid upwards of $500 for all 4 tires 3 years ago, and $40 each for the rims 2 years ago, so the total cash outlay was $660. I sold everything - all 4 tires, rims, everything...for $150 - that was the price I decided in advance. Umm, based on the response to my newspaper ad I should've asked for at least $200. The ad went in the paper today. By 10:30 I had my first call. By 11:00, a second call. The guy that called at 10:30 showed up at noon, took a look at them and immediately counted the cash out into my hand like he would get caught. The second guy showed up about 20 minutes later - he seemed very disappointed. I felt sorry for the guy. I now think I was asking too little, but I *did* want to get rid of them and recoup *some* of the investment. I thought of eBay, but how do you ship tires? It would have had to have been "local pickup only" and there aren't as many eBayers here as there are newspaper subscribers, I'm sure. |
