'Afternoon Joe!

That does look good FB. I like the little storage space under the radio. That could come in handy, like you have your remote in it.

I might call a couple local places tomorrow and see what they have but as far as I can figure it's gonna run about the same no matter what I do. Like I said, this is a budget job not because I don't have it but I don't want to invest it in this car. It needs some other little things too like tires and a front strut because one is leaking so I'm going to just put a pair on.

Also today I was messing around and discovered that not only is one rear speaker a crispy kritter but a front is pretty bad too so I'll definately change out all four.

i'm sure you will be happy with whatever you decide. We got her deck we got it locally because she could have saved a little buying it online at the time, and the install was only 15.00 i have no idea how to take apart her dash, and neither did her father, dumb 1989 Mazda Mx-6.

i am bored out of my mind at work, i am supposed to be training someone, but she didn't show for her shift!

and i don't know if i am going to MT now next week like i was planning. this is starting to suck, all my plans are falling thru. THis time my buddy who just got back from iraq 3 months ago skipped drill for the Guards and they are making him go next thurs-friday when we are supposed to be out west! dammit! hopefully they will let him change because he cant skip or he will loose all his GI bill benefits.

How many side case fans do you have? If you have two, duct one of them to the RAM. I've seen pics of some pretty decent duct work using flexable exhaust pipe or the steel flex pipe for clothing dryer ducts. It looks somewhat better than using just plain old pvc.

I went to BB tonight and checked out the Pioneer DEH-P3700MP. I don't really like the controls on it. For about the same price I could get an Alpine CDE-9845 which seems much easier to operate.

Any opinions on it?

that dryer duct is what i don't like i have 2 fans on my side panel now, 1 blows on my gfx card, the other is blowing on the ram. I just want to concentrate the airflow a little more.

that deck looks ok, Alpine decks are nice, but i have only seen the higher level ones, if you like the controls on it better than the Pioneer, then i would get that. What didn't you like about the Pioneer deck? I have never liked the controls on other decks

IMO, the steel dryer duct looks better than just some glued together PVC pipe unless you take the time to sand, prep, and paint it. Then the PVC doesn't look too bad. I think you can find it in a size that is very close to 80mm so it fits up to the fan nicely and can be flattened out on the end by the RAM if you are careful. It won't crush so you can get a nice transition from round to oval if you take your time. I've used it on our race car to test a theory of mine that a miss was being caused some localized component overheating. BTW, turns out I was right and the duct fixed it untill we could get some better "normal" airflow.

The Poneer 3700 just seems very hard to navigate and I couldn't beleive how hard the volume knob is to use. It's just too darn slipery and short. It probably wouldn't be a problem on the 4700 with the pop out contorl like your GF has. I tried it too and you can actually use it! The Alpine deck has a very similar control but it is easier to get your fingers on and has a rubber or similar ring on it. It also seemed easier to get into the balance, fade, bass and trebel controls. I couldn't find the bass and trebel on the Pioneer deck but it wasn't a problem on the Alpine and I was just messing around in the store.

all the audio controls are under the audio menu on the Pioneer unit. And there is Bass, Mid, and Treble controls and you can choose at what frequencies you are changing those levels

about the ducting, i was going to try and mount a 70mm fan on the othe end, not sure yet if i will do that or not.

That's so true.

I gotta just pick a stupid radio and go get/order one. I keep looking at higher and higher priced ones thinking like "maybe I'll add a sub so sub amp outputs would be good" and crap like that.
