Night time Shuttle Launch

The Space Shuttle launces at 1:36 AM Tuesday. That's an hour and a half after midnight on Monday EDT for those who like to look at it as a Monday night thing.

It's the last night time launch of the shuttle.

Catch the show if you can.

Thanks for the heads up. Wish I was on the east coast to see it. :-(

There are people who live in Tampa who watch shuttle launches from home.

A night time launch will be hard to miss if there is a Clear Sky.

Re: Night time Shuttle Launch

Yeah, I'm in Pinellas Co. We should be able to see it if the sky is clear and I can stay awake. But it would be nice to be on the east coast.

Re: Night time Shuttle Launch

Does anyone know if it's aired live over the web at NASA or elsewhere?

Finally !!!!!!!!!!!

Up it goes ... changing the midnight hour into day ... brightly lighting the sky from horizon to horizon in no other color than a weird bright pale orange electric hue.

Yes ... NASA TV on the NASA website shows the launches live.

If you go to the VIDEOs page and play the video called "Discovery Heads For Space" showing the night time launch, look for the short part at 7 to 9 seconds after launch. It is the only part that shows the true color of the lit sky. Video sensors, film, etc. do not have the dynamic range of the human eye and thus can't show the bright flaming shuttle and the true color of the sky at the same time.

Re: Night time Shuttle Launch

I never see these launches covered in the press here anymore.
What exactly are they doing on these missions anyhow?

Re: Night time Shuttle Launch

I've never seen a launch other than over the Teli. But have seen the approach to landing it flew over the jewel - actually twice. Quite a sound and site in the dark sky.

That's cool. I've never seen an approach/landing. Would love to.

Tickets for the next launch go on sale in 30 minutes!

If you want to go to the launch get them quick. They will sell out in four and a half minutes.
