| Well, nearly completed my Kubrick viewing by seeing Barry Lyndon last night. It wasn't one of my favourite Kubrick films. Very different. The landscapes were fantastic though, and the morning lighting and fantastic clouds on most of them was unmistakably Kubrick. At several places, it almost looked like the clouds were composited in, and knowing Kubrick this was intentional. Every single frame in a Kubrick movie was put there on purpose. I must admit, the duel scenes were very gripping, particularly the last one, with that music playing for 5-6 minutes nonstop. Kubrick just piles the suspense on here, drawing the scene out far longer than any other filmmaker would dare, yet he manages to keep the suspense up! The rest of the movie is no big shakes for me. Kind of long and drawn out and a little boring IMHO. It's a neat story, just not very fast-moving. The only movies I haven't seen of his are some of his very early ones and Eyes Wide Shut. I think I'll pass on that one though. ![]() |

| Be Cool...liked the movie and rate a B. I wasn't impressed by Uma and the dance scene should have been the first thing cut during the edit. There were a few humorous spots that made me laugh out loud and overall the movie isenjoyable but a little long.

| I saw Ong Bak this weekend. If you like Martial Arts movies this one is a must see. It is spoken in the Thai language and has English subtitles. Even if you have seen Muay Thai Boxing before, the way that Tony Jaa executes his kicks are so unorthodox you have no idea where the actual strike will land. I went to the big screen to see it but I did purchase a DVD of the American uncut version off of Ebay before it was taken off. They made a lot of changes in the spoken interpretation of the American theater version. The changes don’t affect the movie though and were necessary. The syntax alone of people speaking in a tongue not native to their own is priceless. Lord of the Rings it’s not, but it’s one of the better Karate movies I’ve seen. If you enjoy the art of Karate without the wires see it, but be warned there is violent action in the movie; not so much in the form of mass quantities of blood but of the bones breaking backwards kind. I do see Tony Jaa carrying the Jackie Chan torch forward, on steroids. |

| King Arthur the Directors Cut. I thought this movie was pretty good. My only complaint was that the pacing was a bit slow. It's not your typical Arthur legend either and I think that is something I liked since it didn't feel like a rehash of earlier movies. It also had Keira Knightley in it, and she was Mrs. Robin Hood with that bow.

| I just finished watching Excorcist: The Beginning. I didn't really know what to expect when I sat down to watch this tonight. With that in mind I thought the movie wasn't half bad(7/10). It has been years since I have seen the orignal movie and will probably have to rent it after seeing this one. I thought the story line was decent and the concept of Satan's fall onto earth was a good point of entry for the movie. I think my biggest thing with this movie was that they didn't build up the characters as much as they should have. There was a few squimish spots I thought(Ok, I hate maggots crawling around on flesh) that made me cringe. I'm just glad my wife decided to go to bed and not watch this movie, I don't think my arm could take the pounding on it. I guess if you are a fan of horror movies or the exorcist movies then you would probably like this movie.

I thought it sucked, IMHO. Man, I saw so many movies on DVD, I can't recall all of them..let's think 'bout any good ones: ENOUGH - good, not spectacular but good THE EVIL DEAD - saw it the first time...what a bunch of crap. Sorry for the ones that liked it. It was just freaking silly. I liked ARMY OF DARKNESS (on DVD) better. Funny, too! Saw AGAIN: DONNY BRASCO: A+ great flick. AROUND THE BEND: Just ok. THE SHINING (3 disc DVD edition): watched part1. Looks good so far. I was waiting for a movie that was in SOME one at least close to the book then the first one from Kubrick. If you read the book, you know what I mean. VIVID colors, too. Nice to look at. Some DVD flicks just dissapointed by their technical quality, I think. SUICICDE KINGS: Good one!! NAPOLEON DYNAMITE: Pretty funny ---this going to be a longer list now...hehe--- ROMPER STOMER: Good TRAPPED: Very good. Last but not least for our V.damm fans: an older one "LIONHEART" Great fighting, story was ok, too. A must for fans! Ok, that's it for today! TUNE IN AGAIN, when it's time for NITCOM'S MOVIE ROUNDUP. Thanks for be with us. Bye! ![]()

Dang, lately all my DVD purchases have been to replace my older "standard" editions. BTW Stephen King hated Kubrick's version, but we ARE talking Stanley Kubrick here. Compared to Kubrick, King is a two-bit hack. (Not that he is a hack, I'm just saying the Kubrick version is far superior!) The book is interesting in that the hotel itself plays more of a role, and the "snow tunnel" incident is truly terrifying, but Kubrick is THE master.
