A few more thoughts about the msconfig glitch.

It could be:

1. Installation defect.

2. One of the numerous programmes I've installed in the past two days taking control of msconfig and making it impossible to open.

If #2 is the case, I wonder whether there's a way of reactivating it.

Using Find for msconfig, then looking at Properties, the Archive box is checked, but nothing else.

Thanks, David L

Many thanks for all the input. *Most* helpful.

As soon as I read the advice to check the CDROM for dirt, it rang a bell, because two install attempts failed at *exactly* the same place.

Now, hopefully, I can get back to working with music.

Salutations, David L
I can't believe my stupid suggestion helped!

Sorry to hear about your msconfig problem though.

i recently reinstalled WIN98 on my oldskool gateway pos and encountered this problem. i had internet explorer 5, and after a call to gateway i downloaded explorer 6, and this solved the problem. its a good alternative to reinstalling OS.

Hi David,

I'd recommend start/run/[type in "sfc"]/[hit "OK"] and check for any corrupt files. If any found, simply pop in 98se disk and replace. SFC=system file checker

Also for 98se users, I'd recommend the "Unofficial 98se Service Pack" found:
http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html

I have installed on numerous 98se re-installs & had no problems but so many advantages. If there is a problem, it can be removed through add/remove programs.

Cheers, Dave.
