My Dad is like that, hates to deal with changes. He is on XP and has changed everything possible to the older Start up Menu, control panel view, etc... I can see some of it, but I like some of xp's features as well.

I am surprised nobody mentioned the infamous Windows ME memory leak. It is even documented by MS. ME is the biggest piece of crap MS ever came up with. Not to offend anyone that has it.

The memory leak in ME is one of the more well known big MS bugs in the tech world from way back. The os will get slower and slower and slower and then lock up. Back when people actually used that os, they had to reload it completely every few months. Surprisingly MS never came up with a fix.

I have obviously been very resistant to change as well. I have personally only ever used 95, 98, 98SE and ME. I had only ever used NT based systems at work. Now that I have tried an NT based desktop at home, I have to kick myself repeatedly that I did not make the change three years ago when Win 2000 came out. I'm never going to use the Win9x stuff again except for games. Clearly in my particular case, upgrading to NT architecture is going to save me time, hassle and vastly improves my user experience. My "test" experience over the last day with XP has been an absolute pleasure. I can't wait to get my copy via courier tomorrow morning (ordered this morning).

Maybe you should show your sister in law this thread.

Jericho,

Do you have a link somewhere to MS documenting it? I vaguely seem to remember reading about it, but I also seem to remember they acknowledged this "leak" as occuring only under very specific conditions. That is, they did not consider it to be a flaw that would effect the general user - only specific users in specific scenarios. Maybe my memory is playing tricks, so it would be good to find out exactly what MS said.

Cool tututut

Come clean, Jericho:

You're trying to up M$$lime sales before you go "short". What's this balony about 're-install' every 3-months?' gawdsakes dust out the cobwebs!

Fact is, My older WinME systems have been up 2.5-Y & 1-Y without a serious hitch! The oldest (K6 / P5A-B ) would have 3.5 years, but I rheemed out the OEM Jetway mobo trying to replace a heatsink. And that system runs legacy ISA / SCSI hardware slick as N. Kidmans knickers ...
