comp infested with spyware

one o fmy computers is constantly invested with spyware and such. I run both Spybot as well as Norton ANtivirus but they remain. I tried going to the Add/Remove Programs and uninstalling some of the obvious spyware but nothing happens. The computer freezes for a lil bit but the program is still listed in teh window. What should I do?

reformat hdd, reinstall os, use firewall such as Zone Alarm, dont use antivirus, use hotmail for its integrated av scanning, use windows auto updates, use online scanners for viruses, dont install programms if u r not sure they r not bad for your comp, use imaging soft such as SYMANTEC_GHOST_v2003.775_WINDOWS.rar, create image right after install amd before connecting to internet... etc, etc

Also try using Ad-Aware SE personal addition(www.majorgeeks.com-under spyware tools). Hijack This is also excellent but you have to understand how to interprete it. There is a moderators forum whereby you can post your results and they will let you know what is safe to remove.

I use these 4 anti-spyware programs and it is a rare occasion that spyware is found on any of my computers:

Ad-aware Personal SE, Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3, SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard. The first 2 programs remove spyware when it is found, the last 2 operate in real time to keep spyware off the PC to begin with. Ad-Aware Personal SE and Spybot can be found at downloads.com, SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are at javacoolsoftware.com.

For antivirus I use AVG from Grisoft.com.

All of the applications mentioned are free for personal use.
