Personally, I probably hadn't spent too much time on such a file. Supicious-looking files only lives about 3 seconds on my computer .
I was doing my best earlier today to not do anything else.

All that stuff in the exclusions list is there when you instal NAV. No big deal but I would remove everything but the .vi? from the list to be on the safe side.

One other thing, personally I feel that under the auto protect setting you should only have " scan files when they are created or downloaded" checked. When "run or opened" is checked, windows can bog down pretty good, especially if you open a program like Office.

LOL ED!!
A dialer?!?

Does it actually dial my modem or launch my browser with an address?

:o A dialer is an automatic program that when run, tries to get you to dialup to a uh.....adult bbs. Basically they want you to dial into their service at whatever the cost of the phone call is. They're hidden all over the place, even on legit sites. Yes it'll launch your browser and cost you $$$ if you don't catch it.

And NO I don't surf for THAT kind of stuff

Thanks JoeFrat.

I guess I'll just delete it then with no experimentation. Sure I can put it on a new machine. Sure I can unplug the phone line. But I'm not.

Thanks for the info though guys.

I've found more than a few dialers and downloaders on peoples systems lately, the problem is a lot of AV progs don't see them as a virus because they just redirect your browser or video prog to a url and THEN they download the nasties....

BTW AVG has been picking up a few than my NAV 2003 (updated daily) misses.

The problem is, they are rapidly being replaced by downloaders...

I tried running a virus once but './omgnakedpicscreensaver.scr .exe' didnt work...

Ive run a few Win viri in the past on purpose just to mess around with them on a spare box. Just make sure you unplug the box from the outside world if you ever decide to do it.
