Question ME Burning

I am using ME and I haven't gotten my 48x24x48 khypermedia CD-RW drive to work at all. The device manager knows it as a standard CD rom. The problem I am told is within the driver. I am unable to find a disk, or even some sort of driver out on the internet to install on my computer. I would like this to work, being that it would be the fastest drive in my house hold. We now have four computers, three desktops and a laptop. thanks for viewing!

Try going into device manager and choosing to update the driver. As it searches for a driver it will use the native windows driver. This may get it to initialize properly

you dont need any drivers for a CDROM!

update your CD Burning software.

ME Cd Burning

you do need drivers. It not the software. Windows doesn't even let me use it like a CD-RW drive should. And yes I have tried flashing it and updating drivers at the Kyhpermedia site, non of them work

As I recall, you do not need to do anything with Windows Me to have it properly recognize a CD-RW drive. I installed a Yamaha drive on an Me machine about 1 1/2 years ago, installed Nero and everything ran smoothly from there. My guess would be that the CD-RW drive is not functioning correctly or has not been connected correctly. You might want to check the setup in BIOS and then use the windows device manager to check and make sure that everything is connected correctly. As one of many possible examples, if you have two optical drives and one isn't set to "master" and the other "slave," they will not work properly.

Besides updating your CD Burning software, make sure DMA is turned on within device manager for your burner.

Also, if this is an external CD-RW, it might need a driver installed. If it is an internal CD-RW, you should not need to install a driver.

have you tried updating the driver while in Device Manager?

I do believe some CD-RW's do need drivers to work correctly.

But, as ThugsRook said, you do not need drivers for a CD-Rom drive. In fact I'll bet there are none available. You do need to update something, but it isn't drivers.
Perhaps the IDE channel is not enabled in the BIOS?

I have tried everything listed above. Nothing works!!
this is really frustrating! anyways, the CD-RW drive works like a normal cd-rom, but i want it to be a CD-RW, windows still thinks it is a Cd-rom normal lame drive.

what do you mean by "windows doesnt recognize it as a cdrw"?

windows has nothing todo with it.
even my cdrw drive is recognized as just a plain CDrom, its the software that makes it work.

you should uninstall all cdrom drivers (probably dos based anyways), and install the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard.
also update your cdrw burning software.

if it still doesnt work as a burner, remove the 2nd cdrom drive and try the cdrw by itself (as a master).
