| 'Course you Win98 ol' foggies could update to rock-solid WinME .. which has paid my bills 12/6/365 since 2000. WinME is the only OS I've ever seen which, when totally corrupted and a clean re-install is performed over it , will retain ALL the functioning parts of the original install and only replace those parts that got whacked. I couldn't believe it !! Has happened twice to me ... on two different boxes ... automagic behavior from a classic M$$$$ product. Now, if only Unkil BIll$$ would produce a 64-bit DOS to rescue all us poor casual home lusrs orphaned by RedFat. |

| I have had to reinstall ME twice, once for a virus that my kids downloaded and trashed the system, and once for when I removed a SB Live card and installed a Santa Cruz card. None of my games would play and Restore did not fix it either. Otherwise, I have been quite surprised how ME behaves itself, though it really enjoys a a PC with lots of memory and something faster than 500Mhz. I love XP, but there are too many older games that will not work with it. Even with compatibility mode. ME does what I need on the desktop, and I used XP Pro on my notebook. 98SE suffers from too many memory leaks due to poorly written software drivers.

| How is Solaris Cheaper?? Sorry.. I only deal with Microsoft technology with my clients. I find that extra money they pay save them money in the long run as it cheaper to maintain.

| RJ: I've got WinME running on everything from a K6-450 to a 2.66G-P4. Sure, it likes the faster speed CPUs & DDR333 sticks. No problemo with DVI/LCD displays. MKS ( *nix workalike shell ) runs on it just fine also. But WinME also handles "legacy" hardware like my Adaptec_1542 and Nikon_Koolscan. With prudent use, WinME becomes a very flexible, reasonably robust ( and underappreciated ) tool for the home_lusr. |
