Do you have File and Printer Sharing installed as protocols in both "local area network" connection properties?

You might want to uninstall and reinstall File and Printer sharing in the Win98SE box. That usually "wakes mine up".

Also did you try manually searching for the other computer in Windows Explorer - My Network Places - Search for computers (right-click) on the WinXP box?

It would help alot if you would tell us exactly what you are wanting to accomplish. "hook up" doesn't give us alot to go on.

Are you trying to get the two pc's to share files/printers? Or do you just want the two of the to connect to the internet through your router? A few more details would really help us out. Thanks!

If both computers are connected to the router, and the XP machine can surf, on the Win98 machine go to "start", "run" and type "winipcfg" without the quotes. In the drop down menu choose your network card. What IP addresses show up?

If your network card is not showing in the drop down menu of the "winipcfg" dialogue then you probably need to re-install it. Win98 does not recognize it as being installed.

As for your XP machine, "winipcfg" is not included with XP, you need to type "command" which brings up a dos box, then type "ipconfig". That will give you the ip info within XP.

Another thing to check on Win98, go to your device manager, expand "network devices", is your network card listed there?

If you are using a NAT router, please configure BOTH machines (XP&98) to use DHCP and set the workgoup for the XP machine the same as the 98 machine. Be sure to use a workgroup on BOTH machines other than WORKGROPUP, and keep them the same. Don't configure the XP machine to use domains.

I use an AirlinkPlus (http://www.airlinklplus.com) router.

This is rather strange, If I clicked on the same link I've posted, I'll get an error. But if I open a new browser an type teh VERY SAME link, just without the "http://" prefix, it's OK.

I use an AirlinkPlus (http://www.airlinklplus.com) router.
It was a discrete mistypo, I included an "l" in the middle. The correct link is http://www.airlinkplus.com.
