| I'd read on one of the postings of the 'old' forum that there was a newer version of Microsoft's 'Shutdown Supplement' for Windows98. Anyone know what the URL is? I checked the Microsoft Support Site, & the only thing I could find appeared to be the old version. Thanks guys, & welcome to the new improved forums! | Zune, I assume that because you're looking for the "shutdown supplement" that you're having shutdown problems. I was having this problem and installed the latest supplement, which didn't help. After trying many things to cure this problem, I found that a USB mouse that I had plugged in at Xmas time was causing my computer to not shutdown correctly! This mouse was for use with an Ultimate 8 Ball pool game, which I played one day and coiled the mouse up behind my cabinet and forgot it was plugged in. In any case, if you have any USB devices plugged in, try unplugging them to see if the problem goes away.

| I had the exact same problem it seems alot of people are having, except I'm using windows 98 Se rather than Me. The funny thing is, I used to have a Asus Cusl2 with a microsoft USB laser eye mouse, and windows restarted and shutdown just fine. Then I got the Asus Cusl2-C then all hell broke lose, Windows 98 would not restart or Shutdown at all, the "Windows is shutting Down " screen just stood their, while my mouses laser eye was blinking a million times, but it would not shut down. Then I pulled out the mouse and put in the PS2 adapter into the USB mouse and tried it, and what happens, everything is fine again, WIndows shuts down fine and restarts fine. Now I'm wondering if this is a bug in the Asus Cusl2-C motherboard itself or is it a Bios problem? I have the 1003 final Bios right now, I am wondering if going to the 1006 beta bios would change things, so I could again use USB. I don't know if its just me or what, but it seems my mouse movement is alot slower and somehow distordted now that I have gone back to the old PS2 style. I would love to hear what you guys think. | Well I just installed the New 1006 Beta Bios on my Asus Cusl2-C, and now I can use my microsoft USB optical mouse, with no problems, windows 98 se shuts down and restarts no problems. So their's your answer, upgrade your bios from 1003 final to 1006 beta and USB mouses will be ok, although I hate using anything beta, espcially a Bios, but I guess I have no choice, how often does ASUS make their Bioses final?? falcon26 |
