P4, WinME & drivers? Need help quickly..

A friend of mine has a P4 and WinME installed. GF2 PRO also. He gets really bad results.

Now he wonders what he needs to install.

There should be a set if chipset drivers on mobo CD right?
Or should he download the latest from, where??

Does he need the Intel ATA drivers?

Please help. Where can I find the latest drivers for P4 [850 chipset is it??] for him?

The Intel i850 Chipset drivers SHOULD be on the CD and do need to be installed!

If not there you can get the newest ones here: http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/driver.htm

The Intel Ultra ATA storage driver is not needed with WinME. Just make sure DMA is enabled for the drives in "Device Manager" and it should rock!

Why dont you need to put the ATA driver on under WinMe...?

Does it have an adverse efect if you put it on....?

WinME has native support for the i815 chipset. Therefore no drivers are needed. If you run the .exe from within windows all it will do is tell you it doesn't need them.

MY BAD!!!!!!!!!! I had been answering a BUNCH of CUSL2 questions when I answered yours! With the i850 Chipset you DO need to install the inf files! Best to do this right after a clean install if possible!

Sorry, Guess my head was elsewhere today.

Also, I would not use the ATA drivers from Intel! The i850 can support ATA100 without them. They also can and do cause problems with CD writers alot of times. Leave em out and just install the inf updates. Then enable DMA in device manager & enjoy.
