Pen Drive 2.0 problem with Win98! Help needed ASAP!

Hi!

I just bought an Pen Drive 2.0/256mb USB drive to replace the Apacer Handy Steno 2.0 USB drive (64mb)

But i can't get it to work, Windows finds a device but when installing the drivers and restarting the computer the drive isn't present in devicemanager or anywhere else.

It can have something to do with the mistake by me not to uninstall the drivers for the Handy Steno 2.0 USB drive. If that was necessary at all ?

How should i solve this rather nasty problem ?

Please help!

If windows detects the drive, try going into device manager, right click onto device, properties and upgrade diver, check your drivers are for win98

Win98 will not automatically recognise these devices. If you have a drivers disk then hopefully there will be 98 drivers on it. If not, then visit the pen drive website and d/l them.

I'll buy another brand, i have used Apacer before and their drives always worked great.

The same problem occured. After restarting the computer it isn't present in devicemanager or as a removable drive.

Hi, generally, one needs to install the software/drivers BEFORE plugging in this type of device. If you haven't already, you could try this:

1) unplug stick
2) boot into Safe Mode - F8 at startup & go to device manager
3) remove all entries for both old & new sticks
4) restart & install drivers ect.
5) plug in stick, see if it's detected, if not, restart with it still pluged in and check again, should be there

Make sure to use same USB port all the time - at least, this is my experience.

Hope this works! - Dave.
