| Potential problem installing OS? It is time to upgrade my neolithic computer and have decided to go with a mobo and graphics card that is PCI Express capable. I -was- going to partition/format the new SATA hard drive and install Win98SE and then do my WinXP upgrade (only copy of WinXP I have). However, according to one post in these forums it would seem that you Can Not install Win98SE on a PC with PCI Express architecture. Is this, in fact, true? Is there any work around for this or am I just hosed and now have to go purchase a copy of Win XP for new computers at $300.00 as well? Any advice is appreciated Sorry about not posting the link to the forum thread about the Win98SE install issue but every time I included the link I was given this message: "Your Post contains one or more URLs, please remove them before submitting your message again" Obviously, I don't know how to post links in these forums even after reading the FAQS Last edited by Fr8Train : 04-01-2005 at 09:12 AM. |

| You shouldn't need to install Win 98 first. Just install XP and put your win98 cd in when it asks where the qualifying software is.

| Regarding the link posting issues. We've implemented a system where new members with a very low post count cannot post links. We had problems with spambots signing up as new members and posting spam threads, and after implementing the limit those problems have been reduced to pretty much zero. You can always post links like this (even though it isn't very userfriendly, unfortunately): http :// www . whatever . com |
