I'm going to get him on the right path . I suggested he get Acronis true image and a separate drive or even a partition. I'm also trying to teach him not to open every e-mail he gets regardless if he has an anti-virus or not. It's tough to teach and old dog new tricks but when it hits you in the wallet you learn faster

Thanks for keeping us informed he will have a better system with XP I hope the virus is gone before you drag the information from one drive to the other.

I thought with you only being able get to a command prompt that It was a boot sector virus and if fdisk /mbr got you into windows but not for long then the virus would still be active if you are able to identify the virus then a visit to Symantec will tell you what operating systems are affected
