| Have the following for that key: [Default] ---------- [value not set] Friendly Name---- "ScanDisk for Windows" Program ----------- "SCANDSKW.EXE" Settings ----------- 01 Try a search for "Symantec". I found several keys there, but didn't notice anything unusal. I may not see anything unusual though since I'm not experiencing the same problem. I'm still thinking it's a setting within Norton, but I'll be darned if I can find such. |

| That's what I have. Do you have sub keys called 'Set0' and another called 'Set1' ? ![]() |

FWIW, I'm on a 98SE machine without Sytemworks installed and there are three subkeys under the "Scandisk for Windows" key: "Code Results", "Set0", and "Set1".

| Well then, that's not the key to the solution. ![]() |

| Okay. Let's try something. Go to: c:\windows\command directory See if you have the files "scandisk.exe" and "scandisk.bak" If so, make a backup copy of both files then delete "scandisk.exe" and rename "scandisk.bak" to "scandisk.exe". Reason: I suspect the original scandisk.exe was renamed to scandisk.bak and NDD.exe was renamed to scandisk.exe. This would cause Windows to run NDD.exe thinking it is scandisk.exe. If this isn't the solution, replace the files with the backup copies. Let me know |

There is no "scandisk.bak" in the windows\command folder on my system.. There is only a "scandisk.exe" and an empty 0kb byte file called "scandisk.alt". I looked in scandisk.ini and did not see any referral to any program in it. It is still a mystery as to how to get scandisk to autorun at reboot after an improper shutdown??? ![]()

| Hi there, I've got to ask.. have you tried fdisk/mbr? I ask this because I am supposing that NortonDD in asking to replace Scandisk has written code to the master boot record. A lot of programs that are impossible to get rid of and are involved with the bootup process do write to the MBR. The way to rid yourself of these is invoke fdisk.exe with the /mbr switch [fdisk/mbr > ENTER]If then you make sure that you have writ Autoscan=1 or 2 in your MSDOS.SYS file AND you do not have a WINBOOT.INI file in the root. I really hope that this is the answer to your problem of now mini-epic proportions.

| Thanks for the info timmeddick. When I get a chance I'll check it out. I still am using NSW2001. It's rooted in the system and it won't come out even though I have NSW2003. |
