| Startup Trouble Hi all, I am having a problem with my computer during startup. I hope someone here can help me find what is wrong. I am running windows 98se. During startup I get the following two screens -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ("First screen.") Windows could not upgrade the file from : Windows could not upgrade one or more system files before starting. Windows may not start or run properly. If Windows fails to start, run SETUP again. Press any key to continue. ("At this screen I must press a key for the computer to continue on.") ("I get Windows 98 splash screen briefly and then the following screen.") ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ("Second screen.") From : Windows could not upgrade one or ore system files before starting. Windows may not start or run properly. If windows fails to start, run setup again. Press any key to continue. ("I do not have to press a key at this point.") Completed updating files, continuning to load Windows. continuning ("Computer starts up and works normally from this point.") |

| I think your computer is looking to upgrade some system files which were installed by some software that you installed and is unable to find them. Immediately before you began getting this error message did you install some software? Maybe that setup wasn't completed properly. First boot in safe mode, uninstall any software recently installed and then try booting in normal mode.

| Thanks coolguy, you were right. It turned out to be a bad install of easy cd creator. Uninstalled in safe mode and now computer is working great. Thank you again for taking the time to help out and also thank you Bofinn for the bump. :wave2: |
