Question Win98 Processor limit?

Hi all,
Anyone know if I can use a P4c @ 3.2 Ghz under Windows 98 SE?
I know XP Pro will work, but I dual boot Win98SE also and I don't know if it will work.
Thanks.

Hello Metalman, I had this same problem as you, let me explain. When I upgraded to a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz (533 FSB) I was running just normal Windows 98 (Not SE) the problem was W98 did not allow a processor above 1800MHz, that left me stuck with an operating system that I didn't really like and an underclocked system. I did own windows 98 SE and I just wanted to see if I could run it on regular Windows 98 before installing the upgrade. Everything worked beautifully after installing Second Edition, full processor support and a much better operating system to boot (no pun intended). I do know for sure that the 3.06GHz Pentium 4 was supported for it's speed in windows 98SE but Hyper Threading is not supported. So I am fairly confident that a 3.2GHz processor will be able to run at it's full clock speed in W98SE but there will be no support for Hyper Threading Technology. The only operating system thus far that I know of that does support it, Is WinXP (Home or Pro) and I guess now Windows Server 2003. I hope the Information that I gave you here was helpful, in your endeavors. Goodluck mate!

Thumbs up

Thanks you guys.
I bought the processor and tried it out. It works great!
Runs slightly hotter than I'm used to, but from what I've read the newer pentium 4 do that.
Do you guys know why the Asus Probe reports the processor 5 degrees cooler than the Bios? This is consistent under load or at idle.
