Are you talking about seconds, minutes, hours or what? And, do you get a spontaneous reboot, any error messages, blue screen?

Well I have had Windows 98SE freeze, crash, and even refuse to shut down although I have never had a spontaneous reboot that I could trace to it. My primary suspects for random reboots are problems with the power supply, memory, or processor in that order. As I recall, the Sasser virus caused random reboots as well.

well..............

sometimes it takes about 30 minutes, 1 hour: one time it just finished loading the desktop when it restarted.l
Another time I was at the windows 98 boot screen and it happened there

i havent had internet access for a while so unless, if its a viris, it would have to not come out into the open for while (a timer)

How old is your computer? Are the parts quality parts? Are you using a UPS?

As Cogar said, suspect those parts in that order.

Power anomalies, whether stemming from problems outside the computer or inside the computer, can cause a large number of problems, including reboots.
