| Windows Explorer Window Size Dear Forum, After a fresh installation of Windows 98SE, when I open a WINDOWS Explorer window, it would be about 8 1/2 inches tall and about 12 1/2 inches wide on my 17 inch monitor. However, when I open any more windows, THEY come out to about 6 1/2 inches tall and about 8 1/2 inches wide. I know there is an answer that works, as my old installation of Windows 98SE had all of my Windows Explorer windows opening the same 8 1/2 by 12 1/2 size. I just can't recall what I did to make it behave correctly. Help!! Thanks in advance. Ben |

| Dear Forum, Below are all of the suggestions that I have tried and none worked. Any new suggestions out there? Ben When the other windows open at 6.5 x 8.5 resize them to the size that you’d like (8.5 x 12.5) and then hold down the CTRL key while clicking the "X" in the upper right hand corner of the window to close it. This is called a ‘hard close’ and Windows should remember the window state when it’s opened again. ----------------------------------------------------------- Did you try to remove "remember each folder's view setting" option ?? tools\folder option\view "tab" ----------------------------------------------------------- Try resizing the windows, holding down Control, and X out the windows. ----------------------------------------------------------- Maximize Windows Explorer and then close it. The app remembers its window size when it was last closed, and it will open new windows the same size. Ditto for Internet Explorer. ----------------------------------------------------------- Try holding Shift when closing from the File menu. or is it ctrl? ... try both ----------------------------------------------------------- Make it the size you want and then click File > Close. ----------------------------------------------------------- Each window you open is for a new folder and that folders display is remembered. so the first time you open it you will have to adust it to the size you want. You could change the view options to browse folders in a single window instead ro right click and chose explore when opening from my computer. I usually do this anyway. Note.. After getting this, I opened 5 Windows, made them all 8.5 x 12.5 and X'd them closed. #2 and on came out 6.5 x 8.5. Same result using File-Close. :-( ----------------------------------------------------------- (1) Open Windows Explorer (or open any folder) (2) Click View & choose Folder Options (3) Click the General tab (4) Select "Custom, based on settings you choose" (5) Click Settings (6) In the Custom Settings box under "Browse folders as follows" select "Open each folder in the same window" & then click OK (7) Click Close on the Folder Options box |
