Week Old VisionTek 4850 $90 and I'll ship

This card was used exactly one week before I upgraded to a 4870....

The card is in perfect working condition-----I did replace the ATI thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5 before I used the card.

There was no real need to upgrade to the 4870 as this 4850 is an EXCELLENT card----but I just did anyway as I'm enamored lately with the entire line of 4800 stuff from ATI ----GREAT value cards for the money!!

Anyway---it was purchased from Best Buy and I have all the original stuff and the original box.

$90 and I will pay the shipping.

Was going to put this on eBay----but thought I'd share this with my friends at ABX first.

If you are looking for an inexpensive upgrade----this might be the one for you. The new ones at Newegg with rebate were like $130 and more.....

Again----this on has only been used for one week.

PM me if interested.

John

good deal

I probably would have bought it from you if it was an HIS or Sapphire 4850 card with the aftermarket cooling...those 4000 cards run crazy hot...I've actually been looking into purchasing a GTX 260

I think there is a new heat "paradighm" Poly....

Everything from ATI/AMD on their Spider Platform gives temps that scare you to death....Phenom's included.....

but are solid as a rock and never crash----never.....

I think it's just the "norm" from those components.....

Also---the latest Cats and CCC have a nice little manual fan control built right in------helps a lot.....

good luck with the 260-----let us know how you like it.

the new Nvidia 200 series cards are actually quite the opposite, so I don't think it's the norm for these latest generation cards...the GTX 260/280 cards power consumption and heat levels are actually surprisingly low

That is why Sapphire's card are so desirable IMO, both Toxic version run idle in low 40's and high is low 50's.

Try reading 260 reviews at NE to see how hot those cards get. Yes they draw low idle current but average idle temp is 50-60C and load temp is 75C up to +90C. They say it is impossible to do SLI due to heat.

Re: Week Old VisionTek 4850 $90 and I'll ship

I thought the 260 and 280 required a pretty beefy PSU----whereas the 4870 loves a simple 500 Watt PSU.

I don't have any experience though with the latest Nvidia stuff since my trusty 8800 GTX----a GREAT card that stood the test of time.....

I think the AMD stuff just runs HOT

Runs good-----but runs hot!!

the GTX 260 requires a 500 watt PSU minimum...the GTX 280 requires 550 watts...with 40 amps on the 12v rail

and like Sandog mentioned earlier, idle temps are very low..."in idle this graphics processor only consumes 25 watts"

power consumption on GTX 260/280

Congrats yamawho!!!

And yes, the ATI cards run hot but they are designed to withstand the heat.

My 3870X2 Overclocked card (factory overclocked) is performing so well in all games at high settings including Crysis that it's making me not get a 4870X2 at this time. Also I like the twin fan open cooling design of this card as opposed to the channeled single fan cooling on most cards. I have not seen any twin fan cooling systems on any 4800 cards yet.

My card idles in the high 40's C and in games runs in the high 50's C hitting 62-63 on occasion.

Someday I'll watercool but right now all is well at high settings and performing fluidly.

Re: Week Old VisionTek 4850 $90 and I'll ship

I tamed the 4870 1gig beast with a full cover DangerDen water block. At full load no more then 35-36c and idle 22-26c, with silence. This is where water cooling really shines....With air it ran 80c @ full load...65c @ idle

Switching over to a 55nm GTX 260, reviews should be on the web soon.
