Any Canadians Order A Laptop from Dell?

I just ordered a basic laptop from Dell (Inspiron 1300) about a week ago and just checked the website and it is on the way. I also noticed in the Purolator tracking details that is coming up from the U.S. What I wanted to know was this: am I going to have to pay any "brokerage fees" when it is delivered?

I made my purchase at Dell.ca (Dell's Canadian website) and paid my GST and PST in the purchase. Is there going to be any surprise fee waiting for me?

Well, stuff from the US usually gets tariffed (stupid *** tariffs.. try ordering something from a site like thinkgeek and paid like 200% in tariffs..)

Anyway, I doubt the boarder / customs / etc would even dare tariff a dell. I am sure it's fine, I remember when I ordered my 2005fpw it was just shipping, tax, and the price itself of course.

Brian, (I still find it funny my name is Brian too) I still die to know what it would be like to live in another Country where the taxes are non existent or very low. It would just feel so awkward I bet paying for something and not being taxed ontop of it.

Do you happen to remember if it was coming up from the U.S. when you checked the order tracking?

I've ordered Dell equipment, a Dimension 1100 recently, that did come up through the states and there were no brokerage fees incurred. What you pay on the website is what you pay. That's it.

Put it this way, within the first 21 days Dell will take anything back for whatever reason. So, if you deny the machine because of the brokerage fees it only screws Dell over, not you. They now have to declare that machine and the parts in it as refurb. So, the last thing they want to have to argue with a customer about is the brokerage fees.

No problem, always glad to help.

I did a cross border trade with a guy, two CPU's for a new in box hard drive and got dinged with an additional $50 brokerage fee which essentially meant I lost out but what can one do?

Whatever happened to free trade? We can ship all kinds of stuff to the US but get dinged every time we want something from down there. Only way around that is by shipping through USPS. I digress though, topic for another thread? hehe.

Its free trade for a company, but not for the individual.

Basically they ship the jobs out of the company, and that doesnt get taxed, but the money we still have it taxed to the hilt whenever we buy something!

They have it all their way, and that is why free trade is way over rated!

Free Trade is 2 ways!
We're still waiting for our 5 billion back on the illegal softwood tarriffs...... We will never have free trade as long as the US administration see's the whole world as nothing but raw materials or dirt cheap labor (It's ok for businesses to think this way, but not govt)
This is the single biggest threat to US homeland security but it doesn't matter because nobody is allowed to say it.....

If we stopped shipping oil south for a couple of weeks, free trade would be front page news I bet.

hahah, yah!

In the bigger picture too, free trade with the east is destroying what once was the Western life. 80 hour workweeks, high unemployment, low paying jobs look like they are here to stay!
