ABX "Active Member" List question

anyone know why even when I am logged out of ABXZone completely that my username still shows up as active under the "Who's Online" "Currently Active" list??...I cleared my browser cache completely and logged out of ABX, yet when I visit the site again next time my member name still shows as being "Active" even though I technically am not officially logged in yet...although when I click my member name it shows that I am not logged in but then why does it still show up under the "Active" List on the front page?...my guess is it has something to do with my IP address being recognized

I thought I had the ability to surf ABX anonymously if I choose not to officially log in

Is there a chance you may have accidentally left a web page up with you logged into aBX somewhere else? Like at school or work or something?

I've done that before.....left an ABX page active, but minimized at work.

no cuz I when I log onto ABX from another computer I always make sure to log out and clear that computers browser cache...

it's weird cuz normally when I am logged on my user name shows up first on the "Active" list...but after logging out and clearing my browser cache and visiting the ABX site again (without logging on) my name shows up on the "Active" list but it is no longer first on the list but rather arranged alphabetically along with every other "Active" member...and it also shows me as logged out when I click my user name from the "Active" list

Ok....I normally never log out....have it set to log in automatically when I hit the site.

But...just tested it. Logged out and it did not show me active, so I'm guessing its not an ABX problem. Maybe your cache isn't really being cleared when it says it is.

interesting...thanks for testing it out...

normally I always stay "automatically" logged in as well by checking the "remember user name/password" box...but every so often I like to clear my browser cache which erases those settings

is there a better way of clearing the browser cache besides the usual browser settings method?

Not that I know of....unless you go to a third party tool. I think there is one called "Cookie Crusher" or something like that...a co-worker told me about it (said he really liked it).

I'm still obsessed over this....

if I log out manually from the ABX site (by clicking "Log Out") then everything is OK...but if I just clear my browser cache without logging out from the forum then it still shows me as active

I'm registered with a few forums and the same problem happens with all the forums

*I even tried some of those browser cache removal programs including Cookie Crusher but same thing

Maybe I misunderstood your problem then. That's how I tested it...by clicking "log out". I thought you said you clicked "log out" and it still showed you in the active list.

If you didn't click log out, then how are you "at the website" (to see you are active) and not logged in?

a light bulb just went off for me...thanks for helping me see the light

I mistakingly believed that clearing my browser cache meant I would also automatically be logged out of any site that was in my browser's cache...cuz every time I cleared my browser cache and returned to a site like ABX I would have to re-enter my user name/password...in doing so I thought that that meant that I was logged out of the site...but in reality all that means is that the stored user name/password to the forum(s) that was stored in my cache was deleted but NOT my "Active" status on the site itself...so the only real way to log off a forum site is to click the "Log Out" button...

don't know if I am making sense or not but the main point is that I understand what I was doing wrong now

I guess the "common sense" part of my brain took the day off yesterday
