I like the idea but also include cameras in there as well (or would you class this under video?). IMO it is not OT and folks (myself included) have challenges when uploading or editing digital video - there are some good editing programs out there that coudl be reviewed as well.

One thing I was thinking, if folks do not like to see such topics when they look for new posts, maybe members can turn off such forums. By example, if a member were looking for new posts, only new posts in teh forums they select would show up and if a member did not want to see any new posts from the audio and video forum they can choose not to and not see any news posts from that forum. Members can still go visit that forum if they wish to read up on the posts in there.

Members can customise what comes up in new post searches.

well, a Sound & Multimedia section already exists. Maybe it needs to be split up or more defined?

I like the idea of a Forum for this, as well as some subforums to break it down a bit more.. Digital Camera's, Recievers, Speakers etc.. I think the crossover from Computer stuff to Home Entertainment systems are not that far from each other. The two go hand in hand in my opinion.

I think you guys are grasping my Idea. But.. My whole intention was to completely deviate from PC oriented Per say and Focus mainly on PURE AUDIO and Video. No Pc sound card stuff and video capture card stuff. But strictly on "watching a movie and Listening to Music" Detached from the PC. keep in mind most of the newew high end gear is very technically oriented.

in that case, I think it should remain in off topic. the Zone is a computer forum.

But I have to agree with this too. So the question is:

Keep them seperate, or put it all together, with different topics?

As my first grandbaby is due in March and the second due in June, I am in the market for a new camcorder(considering the Canon GL2). I have dabbled in video editing some, but could stand to learn a lot more about it. As ABXZone is set as my home page I come here every day, although I don't post so much, I spend quite a bit of time reading others posts. It would be nice to have some info here to save from having to always search for it elswhere all the time. People here usually have excellent knowledge and post better info than I've found at other tech sites, and in more abundance.

I am reserving my vote on this for the time being. There are many good arguments both for and against the idea. One of the main arguments is that it is an area in which there is a huge amount of interest. As I see it, that arguement is both a "for" and an "against." Having such a forum would obviously attract a lot of new people. On the other hand, this is a computer site, and while a lot of AV stuff is computer related, camcorders, HDTVs, etc. are pretty far afield. Considering that there are several forums dealing more specifically with AV, such as here, is there a real need for such expansion? Would doing so degrade the main purposes of ABX?

I also agree that photo and video editing is a prime concenrn of many of us. A forum addressing issues relating to that might be good. We do have a lot of threads on those issues, but they tend to be scattered in Drivers & Controllers, Sound & Multimedia, Other Components & Peripherals, Applications, and OT.

Did I mention I am undecided on this? But I would lean toward a limited new forum that would address specifically photo, video, and audio editing and CD and DVD burning, something along the lines of what SAmmy suggested. I would lean against a forum that would include the whole field of audio/visual.

BTW, I found the link above a great source a year ago when I went the HDTV route.
