abXzone "A" list

I'm interested in starting up "A" lists at the 'zone.

Basically the "A" list would list those products that the membership feel are the best of the best across different categories.

The way I see it working is that any member who wants to start a poll first starts a discussion calling for nominations for the poll category and then after a period of discussion the member then posts a poll to vote for those nominations.

As new products come out new polls could be posted by any member to challenge the current "A" listed products.

The voting would be based on popularity rather than pure technical issues, because products that have different characteristics will appeal to some members and not to others, eg: one CPU may be a very good overclocker, but another CPU may be very good in the technical specs department.

Discussons can be titled like this:
A-List Nominations: Motherboards
These should run for a minimum one week or longer until the discussion is done at which point a list of the products nominated can be put to a poll.

And the actual poll can then be posted like this:
A-List POLL: Motherboards
These should also run for about a week.

Polls are to be anonymous, so as to avoid any flak, whereas nomination discussions will hopefully be robust.

It would be good if we could have a separate forum for the A-Lists. Nomination discussions and polls would be posted there, so the most recent Poll in any given category would show the current A-Listed item in that category.

Feedback please.

Re: abXzone "A" list

I think it's a great idea. The discussion threads would likely generate interest and posting traffic.

It would need to be done via polls or something, mass postings on what everyones opinions are would cause so much chaos.

Sure; I expect every nomination to go to the poll. The idea behind the nomination thread is that posters can talk about the product they are nominating and why, which gives others a chance to think about it before they make their vote in the poll thread.

I'm not sure enough active members have enough experience with each piece of hardware voted on. I know I only can vouch for one motherboard every other generation. I know others have more, but honestly, look at how many active members there are here now?

Yeah, I can see how that point of view could be a stumbling block, but if we think from a "glass half full" perspective then this just might lead to more members becoming active.

You're right that people cant talk about what they dont know, so the idea is that they talk about those products they do know about, or have an interest in. I dont think you have to own every piece of hardware out there to have an opinion, and we do have some pretty tech savvy people here.

Its just an idea I had.
