Classified section..

It's me again with another one..

I like to frequent the classifieds forum, but sometimes it is very hard and time consuming to figure out which items are still for sale. Is there any way to archive or delete "sold" threads so that it's easy to make a quick peek and see what is still for sale?

I usually peruse the items for sale - if I see an item has been sold I edit the title of the thread...

I might suggest that if someone has an item for sale that they follow it through and provide info to a mod so they can do likewise.

Deleting the sold items?
I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not, but a discussion about it might be good.

Do you think that having some kind of history in those threads tells a viewer about that person?

Ahhh...you are right though - I was a little behind and it's hard to tell what's up...we need help from those that participate as well.

Would there be a way to allow the thread creator to mod their own thread in the classified section only? That would eliviate for a mod having to get involved..

I know that deleting seems kinda harsh, but I don't see what purpose they'd serve once a sale is complete..

As far as the feedback thing goes, I think that just be being a member earns a degree of trust as does how long they've been around and posted etc.. also most who do ebay or heat list their ratings in the thread anyway. Since the classifieds is such a small part of ABX I wouldn't want to make a lot of work for the mods and CJ.

It would be good to get some other views though.

I think editting the title with 'SOLD" is a better idea then deleting the thread.
It keeps the info available...
I dunno if its posible to allow the 'creator of the thread' to modify the title or not, if it is, that may be the best bet... and frees up the Mods for other things...

A little BuMp Just wondering if any decsision was made about this. The threads have become pretty jumbled lately. Another suggestion is to set standards for post title prefixes, I see alot of ppl advertize their ebay listings, but for those that don't want to bid it would be nice to know form the title. Standardized title prefix suggestions:

FS: = For Sale
WTB: = Want to buy
FB: = For Bid
etc..

As a frequent browser of this forum it would be nice to have a bit more organization..

I was just recently able to post an item for sale in our classifieds.
If and when I sell this item, can I not go in and just delete the ad?
I see no sense in letting it sit there after the sale.
And I see no sense in reading any ads of products that have already been sold either.
Just my .02 worth.

Nope - the originator of the thread cannot delete the first post - this was put in place to keep folks from deleting whole threads.

Best advice right now is to pm a mod so the title can be edited - I peruse on a fairly regular basis to see if something is sold, but am not available all the time either...

I would think if someone wants to use this feature of the forum that it isn't too much ask of them to pm a mod when an item is sold...

As far as deleting - I have seen this on other forums and I don't like it - you have no idea of what was sold or for how much.
It's kind of nice to do be able to do some research and find what an item is worth - for both buying and selling.

I have some other ideas too, but I'll leave it at that...

I think the best thing that could be done is to standardize some thread title prefixes and update sold items..

Sorry, but I think this "idea thread" has been put on hold for a while. It seems vBulletin 3 was released and suddenly everyone got busy .

We haven't forgotten about this thread, though. It's just not on the top of the list .
