delete or retire account

How do I delete or my account from all the non-ABXZone forum websites that just got combined with ABXZone? Or, if I can't make that choice, how do I delete or retire my account altogether? I don't want to be associated with the other forums. I looked.

I didn't post to the other forums. I did post to ABXZone; whether you keep that history up is up to you.

I see the process for deleting or retiring is hidden in one of your forums behind a lot of effort to prevent it; the lack of a straightforward discussion of the point, such as in the FAQ, is a little alarming.

I was going to send this as a PM to an ABXZone admin, but found a choice of 5 people whose name begins that way and didn't know whom to choose.

Thank you.

Your name only shows up on another forum if you willingly CHOSE to register there. As for here, you can leave if you like. There is no 'delete' account option. Also, please search the countless other strains of this discussion before feeling like you need your own thread on the matter.

Any minimal effort on your part would have led to identifying me as the right person to PM about your issue.

The email announcing the combining of websites said we have "automatic posting privileges" in all of the forums. That means we're effectively registered or preregistered there. I didn't consent to that and still don't. Therefore, please take me out of all of the other forums. If taking me out of the others means taking me out of all of them including ABXZone, then please do so. There is indeed an option to delete an account; please exercise it. You may keep my past ABXZone posts up if you wish but without keeping my account open on any of the other forums. Not using the account is not the same as deleting the account. Therefore, delete the account.

I began the topic because you have the information on the method buried in other topics and not laid out in explicit terms in an obvious place, like the FAQs. You may use this topic to post a reply stating the method for having one's account deleted or retired. That might do for the next persons until you put the method into a FAQ.

Should you have technical difficulties with deleting an account, you may consider shipping your servers and related materials to me so I may do it for a fee to be negotiated. I think if you check with your database management system supplier you'll find instructions for deleting a record of an account or of anything else. Those instructions may even be free. They may even already be on the same machine with the software.

Granted I didn't keep digging to find out who the proper system administrator is. I had already spent a chunk of time trying to find the procedure and found it buried. I tried to send a PM to admin and found 5 names beginning with that string, which meant I did not know to whom to send the PM, which is why I started the topic instead. Given the amount of time I had already expended, I didn't think I had an obligation to spend much more time. As far as I can tell, no further information is needed to carry out the deletion, and therefore no PM is needed at this time. Please delete the account from all the other forums, even if that includes deleting it from ABXZone.

Thank you very much.

This is an opportunity to update the FAQ in the new members forum.
Could put this info in there so this doesnt happen again.

I think the phrase "automatic posting privileges" is inaccurate. You have to sign in and accept each forum's rules before allowed to post or show up as a member. You just don't have to re-enter you user data if you wish to do so. I don't think you have anything to worry about Nick. This would make a good FAQ topic though. Maybe put all relevant info in an announcement at the top of each forum.

I have changed the name of the account and made it inaccessible to you. All the best, Nick Levinson. Save your condescending manner and orders for someone who cares. I am only changing the name on the account because it appears to be your real name and I understand why that would make you uncomfortable. A simple PM to me and we would have worked out a solution without the need for all of this drama. You are fortunate that I am getting older and non-confrontational with time.

Actually, deleting his account is not a problem and if it were up to me, his request would be granted. I believe we have previously deleted accounts upon request without issue.

AFAIR, the system handles deleted accounts quite sensibly by simply removing the references to the original poster while leaving the member's posts intact and listed as if posted by the general "guest" account.

I haven't checked out the other sites so I have no idea in which way the ABXZone.com user accounts have been linked to them. If, however, the user accounts show up in the members lists then I can certainly understand why some members are concerned because they have now become affiliated with sites that they did not register with themselves.

Even if someone uses an alias rather than his or her real name, an alias can still often be uniquely tied to a particular person or online entity.

For the record, you will not show up in the member's list of any forum until you click that "I agree to the rules, start posting!" link the first time you visit. Therefore, you are not associated with any of them unless you choose to be. As was mentioned earlier, the only thing this gives you is the convienence to not have to re-enter all your info, and for your basic information (username, password, email) to be consistant and current accross the network forums you choose to visit. As for privacy, your password is still salted and hashed, and your details on every forum respect the privacy settings you chose when you registered.

It's one part amusing, two parts sad to see how worked up people get but we try.

"Anonymouse" is a good pseudo; too bad I did not think of it when signing up.
Can we have a smiley with a mouse in it? something like this one:

BTW keep up the good work Sanjay, and always stay cool
