Yikes!

Thanks, fixed mine. Appears that I cannot fix kONGO's though. I used to have more "mod" controls for other users' settings. At least, I can still correct sigs since spammers are starting to use the sig for spamming.

I thought you always were viewable...I remember seeing your name on the list many times (or was I just imagining that? )

Normally, I'm hidden. A few years ago I got nailed with PMs that should have been posted on the forum for others to get answers to their questions. I was so busy on the PM that I did not have time for the forums.

I am sure you agree, more flies can be caught with honey than vinegar.

I think the whole "username" issue could have been handled with a bit more sensitivity. "I own these forums. You are my guest. What is unclear?" and "I am sure the next TQ will keep your legacy alive. $25 paypal for anyone who would like me to give them the TQ username. PM me for details...you can use it to impress friends and family.... over 6,000 posts- what a way to join a community!" would not fly in the business culture I was nutured in! I don't think this is a way to win friends and influence people! But then again, in today's world - this tact may work.

I understand to keep the forums going you need money. I also understand there may be some sort of reimbusement made by the search engines. I guess it depends on what sort of crowd generates the most data which in turn produces income. Content quality may be irrelevant, in the end its all about money, isn't it?

Anyway, thanks for helping put things in context. We'll see which way ABX goes.

To sum up what Vienge said, "The internet is SERIOuS BUSINESS" ; we use the internet, to use a word that i do not particularly like, to "vent". we act silly online just to get it out of our system so we can act better irl. on genmay anything goes. a forum i used to be a member of, i posted a link to lemonparty and was permabanned. i had been a member for like 3 years w/ like 8,000 posts. on genmay if i did that no one would even comment on it. also it's strange to see asterisked out words on this site because i am accustomed to genmay's lax rules. example: if one types "the n word" on genmay, it is not *'d. it actually replaces it with the username of an African American member of genmay. this has nothing to do with the administration: once upon a time one was able to purchase smilies, similar to if one typed like :angry: someone might purchase an angry looking smilie.

don't assume people who act stupid on the internet act stupid irl/that's how they really are. just loosen up a bit.

serios irl business:

Truly a day to remember. My cloak was at the laundromat. I also had it bedazzled. I would say "pimped out" but I'd have to hit myself repeatedly with a crowbar.

I've been a member of genmay since day one. as it has been mentioned before nothing is gona change. sanjay is very hands off when it comes to running the forums. all your mods will continue to do the same job of policing your forums as they have in the past. the odds that the 14 year old immature kids finding abx is very slim. they first would have to go into compumegahypernet and then click the link at the top. and I missed it 5 times. so thats not really promising for the spammers. just be your selves. nothing major is gona change.

yes genmay is like that drunk uncle bob that everyone has but doesnt really talk about but they put up with him cause he is loaded and likes to hand out the money. that is basically all that sanjay has done. (he is not the drunk one though). look at it like this. you got a influx of cash to pay the bills. now you dont have to worry is the site will be here next month or next year. genmay pulls in loads of money with "donations"

its like giving every member the powers of a mod. but they gota pay for it. and it can only be used for one option. like when you were a kid and your parents gave you a quarter. yes I am rambling lack off sleep will do that.

Name ownership. you all clicked the I accpeted the above policy when you joined did you not? did you all actually read it? it is laid out that all posts and information contained with in the forum is property of the owner. so what is the big deal?

Never have to police them. The membership has been able to do that themselves. We only tended to things that required a higher level of access to facilitate. Policing is a waste of time, a make work project. Our members have been good about working together.

Welcome to ABXZone.
I don't think anyone here thought they owned their username but it does come as kind of a shock when you log on and your username has been changed. It was no big deal to me but I can see how it would be to others.

Does anyone actually read those user agreements?

shenanigans != not civil

sillyness != not civil

www dot uploaderX.net (you have to use the www dot btw) - a multiserver image hosting operation. run for genmay by a genmay member. entire website scripted from scratch. currently "Hosted pics: 280379"

genmay dot theintarweB.net - again, more fancy scripting showing statistics about genmay members.

0id dot net - irc server run by genmay members for genmay members. speaking of which i think i will hop on that irc right now.

etc

these are all free (and ad free) tools by uncivil users for uncivil users.

damn uncivilness!

ps: irl i don't lie, steal or use profanity. i do not drink or do drugs. and no, i am not religious. in my free time i read the wall street journal and books about coral atolls, when not updating my educational coral island website. i used to contribute to wikipedia/wikimedia quite a lot, but i got tired of those tards taking themselves to seriously and teaming up to make stupid rules that other tards use as their holy book.

GOD I CIVILITY!

i must leave now. i am off to amazon.com to purchase a magnetic compass, a book about life on the gilbert islands (now known as kiribati, pronounced KEE REE BAS), the ellis islands (now known as tuvalu) and fiji, and a collection of my favorite comic strip, pearls before swine.
