Favorite Threads Page?

I actually have thought about this off and on for months, but never said anything, then when I just saw another thread that mentioned a similar idea, I thought maybe I should suggest it.

Problem: Many threads that we like to reference too often, but not so often that it may fall past first page of a forum.

Solution: Off to the left side on the main page (main menu area), add a link to a "Favorite Threads" page.

This can be a web page (like Articles, or how to's) with links to the "favorite threads" (as determined by mods), then we could also stop having half a page of sticky threads in some forums.

That way we can just sticky threads that are important for a short time (and then unsticky them later) and not have so many.

What do you think of this idea, people?

Hmmm...that sounds pretty cool. I find that in many cases, I can't check in as often as I'd like and will very well miss updates on a thread - especially one I use as a reference or have tried to get involved in.

While I suppose I could subscribe to a thread, I don't check that email account all the time..and it's easier to do a Search on my ID to see if a thread I've contributed to or interested in has been updated. But in the case of reference type threads, I end up posting something just so I don't lose them.

A "Favorite Treads" area could maybe also have a 'quick search' on your logon ID? just a thought...

Geeeez. Give a guy a degree and he wants the world handed to him on a silver platter.

Seriously, something like that would be good if it could be done. Sometimes if it has been a while since the last log on (I've been known to go as much as two hours ), it takes a lot of effort to find a thread. The various new posting information doesn't always solve the problem. What I have done is create an ABX folder in my IE favorites and put my favorite threads there, moving them in and out as needed.

One problem with the idea is that we would probably have 20,000 ideas as to what the favorite threads should be. But it is an idea worth consideration if it can be done.

No...the problem is not "just" finding it, it is knowing what to find. And it is not just threads I want, but things like the "doantion" thread or the "advice to posters" thread. It's more an an idea to reduce the number of sticky posts than anything.

You just love shooting my ideas don't you? Does it bring pleasure?

No, no. I think it is a good idea. My comments were simply in line with my penchant for seeing problems before diving in (like maybe ASUS should do before introducing a new BIOS). Even without something like you are suggesting, there seems to be an unnessary "once a sticky, always a sticky" problem which does clutter some topics with outdated info.

On the other hand, taking potshots at you does give a certain amount of pleasure. Remember all your lawyer jokes. Another .

There is a recommended thread page under Web Links (in the front page main menu).

http://www.abxzone.com/links.php?op=viewlink&cid=5

That's not a very intuitive place for it though. Getting it integrated with the forum could be an idea. Good suggestion.

Perhaps it would be possible to set up single page, linked from the front page, name it "Favorite Threads" (or some other name?), and set the page up to display all current "Sticky" threads? I see something like:

FORUM NAME

sticky 1

SECOND FORUM NAME

sticky 2
sticky 3
sticky 4

THIRD FORUM NAME

sticky 5
sticky 6

and so forth...

The current Web Links page format seems unneeded... too much navigation before you get to the links you're looking for. Distinguishing our own threads from "web links" is a good idea, IMHO. I'd never have expected to see a listing of our own threads under the heading "Web Links", as the phrase implies links to other sites out on the Web.
