Folding for a n00b

hey I am very intrested in folding but I am not sure what it is can some give me a explaination to what is folding and what is required?

lots of good info in this thread.
Folding@home links, howtos, etc.

basically folding is using our spare cpu cycles to help Stanford conduct research.
