It was a hollow feeling to come here and see that message this morning.
Glad you reconsidered, CJ! Thank you, kindly!

Exclamation Imagine waking up after a night of drinking to find you missed this!!!

I completely missed the site being down, by the time I regained my faculties the site was back! I still don't know what to say, other than I'm glad this was short lived! OMG, I hope this NEVER happens again, especially not for such a PETTY BS reason! I think it's a shame the site almost ended that way!

Anyways, it shows exactly what's wrong with this country, it's a real shame that there could be REAL fear of legal consequences to anything done here! Lawyers have ruined this country, made it so we're afraid to fart without a permit! Ridiculous lawsuits are rampant, and the really sad part is some are successful!!! I swear, there's got to be something in the water, because this whole country is going completely insane with this touchy-feely, frosted-flakey, half-baked, brain dead, idiotic, CRAP! To be afraid enough to actually close this site down due to legal consequences is just NUTZ! It shouldn't be this way, but I have to say that I understand WHY it was done! It would be a major headache even if it was an unfounded, frivolous, ridiculous lawsuit! I'm truly sorry you had to deal with that CJ, but I can't really do anything about it.

Hopefully, the responsible party will see thier reputation headed further down the swirly bowl, and back off to save face. I dunno though, anybody that would consider anything like that in the first place might just be the type to carry through with it. I hope not for your sake CJ . The important thing is it DIDN'T end like this!

Yes, he did. It appears that appeals from the members helped pursuade him to restore it.

Thanks, CJ.

cool...like the phoenix rising from the ashes...was busy with the Super Bowl all day yesterday and missed all the excitement...good to see the site back up...no need to let intimidation and unwarrented legal threats shut down the place...

Part Deux

can we also make a new rule where all Mods/Admins can no longer use the Invisible Mode to surf ABX...a mod/Admin has a bigger responsibility to the members so they should not be allowed to use cloaking tactics all of the time...the last time around we had mods who surfed ABX in invisible mode 100% of the time

Actually, they're weren't invisible because they were mods. They were invisible because they would otherwise be bombarded with PMs, particularly Sierra and PCBruiser, due to their level of activity. People would PM them with questions instead of posting those questions in threads - and being seen online only increased the volume. Both of them browsed the forums invisibly from before they became mods.

To me that's one good reason why it shouldn't be a rule as such. Rather, mods should be encouraged to maximize their visibility, but still have the option to be invisible if they so desire.

If Admins/Mods AND members are all conducting themselves as adults and within the proper confines of a wonderful site like the ABX Zone, then this rule won't matter. Looking at the current Admin/Mod list, I see no worries. Invisible can be helpful to both members and staff alike. Changing this rule won't prevent anything that happened in the past.

CJ, thanks for getting back in the batters box after the bean balls were thrown. I hope that everyone that still posts here is 110% behind you. For members that are not, then like I said in other posts, it may be time for them to find another site that suits their needs. No hard feelings either way, no messy divorce, no bashing either way.

Mike.

agree...but the problem before was that they were invisible 100% of the time...cloak and dagger once in awhile is fine but there should be a better balance...even I have played around with the Klingon invicibility cloak once in awhile but mods needs to be more visible---

Hehe, yeah. Uncle Owen is a smart guy.

I feel that as long as the site is covered by at least one visible mod/admin at any given time (or close to it) then I can't be bothered by the fact that someone needs to stay a bit more out of sight. And you have to remember the "summon a mod" function (report post, hehe). It works quite well because all mods will receive an email thus guaranteeing the fastest response possible.

Over the years, I've also hit a few lows where I didn't really feel like committing too much to the forums and so the invisibility cloak was put on until I felt better and more energetic again. To me at least, that's another good reason why it would be bad to require mods to be visible all the time.

Interesting. Notice your usage of wording.
Cloak and dagger
Klingon invicibility

Your wording makes it sound as if all of us mods are hiding in order to have some super power with demented intent. I honestly don't appreciate that you are using wording like that. I make myself visible by posting. Sometimes I come in here for 2 minutes at a time and if I have to contend with PMs and people monitoring my movement with why I did not answer a PM in that 2 minutes then my service of being a mod has been hampered with modding the rest of the forum. I'm hiding in order to provide a service to the largest number of audience. I come out to help, but I really can't devote hours replying to PMs on top of modding the rest of ABX at the same time.

For me, responsibility comes the desire to serve but not at the expense of demanding the servant to work beyond their means with time for as many people as possible. Leaders delegate their resources and time. Sometimes that means that I must delegate my time to respond to a PM with a strong desire to provide a proper response instead of a rushed "I'm being monitored and I better respond now to this PM" stance. I would have to allot a certain time of the night to make myself visible and treat this modding more like a job instead of a service and my modding throughout the day will be gone. I will not be coming here on my lunch break when I know that I'm being monitored. So my servantitude to ABX would be reduced not improved based on what you want.
