Question GratZ threads for HIGH posters ......

As a high poster, let me say that it is "almost" embarassing to get a new gratZ thread every month or so. We have that many because we love to hang out here.....don't care about the post count.

I suggest to ABXers that once a member has reached, let's say 15,000 posts, we have solidly identified ourselves and don't need "encouragement" of gratZ thread at every 1000.

How about, after 15,000 we only go with gratZ threads at 5000 marks?

What do you guys think?

BTW.....Brian, if you are reading this, you can still post your pictures for us.

15,000. wow. I'm not even to 1,500 yet. You've been a member for what, 30 months now? That's about 16.6 posts a day. What is your average anyway?

But only "on-topic" postings. Off-topic should not be included in the equation IMHO.

That would be fine with me....but CJ would have to modify the way post counting works. I don't know if that's an easy thing or not.

We've tried that. Not exactly a success...

When? I don't remember?

I remember once requesting to cut down on the gratZ threads, and that was a success. It used to be every 100 posts somebody got a thread.....

thats actually a very good idea...in a few forums I am registered with, your post count only goes up when posting in the "technical" sections of the forum...OT threads do not raise your post counts....

15,000???? you've got to be kidding??...the point is to cut down the number of congrat threads not increase them...if you're gonna keep congratulating members up to 15,000 posts that takes away the whole point...how many members actually reach that point to begin with?? and to keep congratulating them every step along the way till 15,000 seems crazy...I thought at first you were suggesting only doing congrat threads once a member hits 15,000 posts which seems more reasonable...

heres my suggestion (if we really must keep the million congrats threads alive)...create a separate "Congrats" thread...once a member reaches whatever post number deemed worthy enough for recognition, everyone must post their congrats in that thread alone!!!--that will take away the new threads popping up everyday

or even better...only certain milestones should be recognized...1000 posts...5000 posts....10,000 posts and then every 5000 posts thereafter

I remember that. It was 2000 or 2001 I think. People went off the wall. Peoples avatars disapeared becuase their post count dropped and such. It was chaos! Remember, this forum is about "supporting computers AND building friendships." Does it really matter what someones post count is???? Is it really important enough to do this??? I think things are fine just the way they are.

On a separate note, does anyone know what the single day post count is for one member? I am sure it would be Chris or FB. I don't know, Sammy seems to post a bunch too.

i think it should only be for the first 1K, then 5K, then 10K, etc

one big thread would just be messy.

I guess you didn't really read my post....but I'm used to it by now.

My point wasn't to necessarily reduce gratZ threads in general (although that's not a bad idea too), it was to reduce it on us "high posters" because we really don't much care anymore.

I suggested 15,000 because I took that as a possible point where people have posted enough they stop needing that "pat on the back". It could easily be a lower point though....I probably felt that way before I even got to 10,000.
