Personally I wouldn't be here without the OT forum. I rarely need technical help and although I'm a nice guy I wouldn't spend nearly as much time around here if I was just going to answer the same old questions over and over. I come to read the OT forum and while I'm here I'll try answer questions I'm familar with and then I leave. I imagine I'm not the only member who would be bored just answering technical questions when most of the questions are similar.

Well I would start then by changing the name from Asus boards to 'Open forum where you learn nothing but increase your post count' boards. I'd say ABX has changed to half and half now by just looking at the front page. If you want to laugh and have fun I would go hang out with family or friends. I don't think it is good business running this forum into an OT lounge. JMO

Sandog, when I look at the front page I see two sections..."active threads" and "active off-topic threads"...depending on my mood, I read one or the other first, usually both before I am done. Any "OT lounging" is done in the area with the header "active off-topic threads".....what part of this is unacceptable? It seems perfectly clear to me which area is for what ...

To everyone: Look at the sign on the door folks, it reads "supporting Computers and Building Friendships"...if you want to drop the "Building Friendships" part, then you better take down the sign and put up a new one celebrating the new sterile tech site clone that will result.

There are two distict areas for tech and non tech.

what the hell is the problem really, I give my advice that I can on the tech thread and give my reponses on the non-tech threads. In the correct areas. That is how a forum sch as this works.

One can learn and grow much by interacting with with their peers, be it tech, common interest, human nature, laughs, sad tales, etc. The whole thing depends and revolves around sharing our knowledge and experiences. Some are just more inclined, or able, to contribute more or less to one area or the other.

Seems to me we all enjoy our area of interest here, so why not ?

Who decides what is and what isn' "tech"? That's been my question all along and it seems that no one wants to tackle that one. My feeling is that it is because it is a question that can't be answered. To paraphrase, "One man's tech is another man's trash" meaning that what some find tech, others will find totally OT.

Examples can be provided if requested.
