I don't really care, personally. Move what ever you like - I agree - too many forums IMO

Talking about themes, I never cared for the dark ones like vRocking. They look nice but are hard to read.

I like the way you think. Please give me direct suggestions and I will consider them.

If it is possible for the reader(me) to switch off multicolor attributes sort of like the switch to hide sig files then I'm all for it.

Alot of folks have ABX as their home page, it's one of mine on firefox. I open to the news page for a quick read. When I look at the forums page it seems too crowded and not prioritized correctly. General interest with Open chat is at the top and all the Tech Goodness is below the horizon(spin that scroll wheel!)
Time for painting a couple word pictures so you can see my suggestions.
You're sitting on your porch cup of coffee at your side and you reach for your Sunday morning newspaper (oh you're seeing it aren't ya). It's got sections and across the top you can see what's hot in Sports or Metro and you can bypass the World/National news to find out where the garage sales are.
Also, it comes with pages, it's not delivered on a giant roll that says unroll to foot/meter 37 for box scores and team highlights. You get the idea.
So to see this on our board I would have the front page giving me one or two big news items a picture(maybe case mods or graphic related to the headline news) And a tidbit of whats happening in the inner sections. This could be Title of the busiest thread or maybe live feed scroll like an RSS

Also think it would be cool to see news other than tech fare from locations where our members live. International exposure so to speak.

I can expand on this if you see value in the idea but right now my wife is hungry and I promised to take her out for dinner.

Same here. If the new default skin is going to be a dark background you can mark me down as hating it already. I prefer to get my bloodshot eyes from drinking to much, not reading the forums.

As for the birthday forum, I actually like it that way. As some may have noticed I post in there a little . I find it much easier to scan through and find the birthdays I miss on the days I don't visit the forums. I'd probably get used to it if it got merged though. Some of the other forums definately could be merged.

why is Open Chat now grouped together with General Technology?...they seem like 2 completely separate unrelated threads

Ya, not seeing the logic there. Previous message was sanjay wanted this place for tech and now sanjay has just burried the tech threads in a butt load of OT threads. Personally, it looks like a merge for the sake of a merge on that one. I have to say that the layout as it was, wasn't that bad. We spent a lot of time debating the layout to get it where it was. I'm all for improvement, but this move doesn't seem like a wise improvement.

I may be missing something, but the only "technical" threads I see in the Open Chat & General Technology Discussion forum are rants like "I hate merchant X" and conversational items like "How many songs can you get on your iPod?" I see questions about computers at least this technical on most bodybuilding forums.

I see that too.

On a tech website, tech is 'on topic'.

Off topic chat should be a separate area.

This is still a tech website, isn't it?

Newcomers and Birthdays should be imploded and sunk to the bottom of the ocean to form an artificial reef.

I'd like to see a sub-forum on small form factor (SFF) computing. For a while it seemed like no fan was too loud, no case too big. Computing was getting obnoxious with blue LED everything. Now, more than ever I think, is the growing trend of computing that doesn't clash with everything else, and that included small form factor and slimline designs.

You guys must be imagining things....I just changed the title of that forum by adding 'technology' to it.

I did not move a single thread into that forum.

I added the word to the title because I saw posts in there that were very general tech posts, and I also did not see any other general forum where you could ask about gadgets, accessories, trends, etc...

There needs to be somewhere less intimidating for a new member to hang out and just chill. Maybe I will take the title back to what it was, but other than the title...nothing changed.

there was no merge.

I did not move a single tech thread- that content was the original open chat content- untouched by me. I just noticed that there was nowhere for someone to post lightweight tech content that was not covered by the subforums.

Anyways, I have changed the title back.
