make a forum not show up in get new messages

This might work to exclude the off topic/birthday threads when searching for new posts:

http://www.abxzone.com/forum/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=X

X is suppose to be the forum number (use commas for multiple), but I see the abxzone use words, ex: open-chat. It doesn't work with words in the search string? Can a mod tell me if there is a forum number assigned to each?

Also, I found a few links showing how to customize the UserCP to configure the New Search.

Exclude forums from "New Posts" - user settable - vBulletin Community Forum

It's the vBSEO plugin that changes the URLs to forums, to make them appear static to search engine spiders and the like, so they index the site and attract more hits.

All forums do have forum ID numbers. Which one do you want to exclude, I can get that number for you. Typing up a list would take a while and I don't feel up to it right now.

I think creating this link for people who don't want to see open-chat and birthday threads would be a good start.

Done. You'll find it in the Search menu on the navbar. Available in all styles.

Awesome - that should make some non-off topic campers happy! Thanks...
