News section is going Off-Topic

Is our news section going off-topic now as well?
Please keep at least that section computer related.

I agree with this. This is a computer based forum and the news topics should reflect that. If there are 20 new "news topics" a day and most of them are non-computer related, then the front page does not reflect what this site is suppose to be about.

Keep off-topic / politics / weird electrical / regular tv type news off of the front page...

note: and I love the OT sections!!!

Which ones? I go through and see maybe one out of 25 news topics that's a little off-topic.

I just looked through the news and it's not that bad. I see a few articles about space things that are more off topic than computer news. (not the satellite article about isp's going down).

The point Swannema was trying to make I think is to give it a double think before clicking submit.

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

I'd have to agree. The news section is probably at its best since I've came here...

sapce, science and computer are all fairly related, I don't see a problem with putting in slightly off-topic stuff such as stuff about the hubble telescope or something like that as that is general interest science/technical.

But other stuff like "bear drinks beer" or "monkeys knife fight with president bush while in venezuala" should be kept out.

although I'd like to see those posted in the off topic forum, as they sound rather entertaining.

I also agree that the news section has been really great as it's updated more frequently since Chris and Geoff have been added as part of the abx news team. It's okay to have a few topics that are non-computer related.
