Please Keep Us Better Informed About Site Status

To the ABX administrators:

As you well know, during the past few weeks there have been multiple significant outages and site slowdowns affecting ABXZone. We the members and users understand that problems inevitably arise from time to time, and we are very appreciative of the hard work and long hours that those whose job it is to address the problems are no doubt putting in.

When such problems arise obviously the top priority is to work on them, but it would be very helpful to very many people if a minute or two could be taken during those times to keep the members and users informed, in as timely a manner as possible. When outages or slowdowns can be anticipated, please let us know ahead of time. When unexpected problems arise, please post status and expectations periodically while the problems are being worked. That would save a great many members and users a great deal of frustration and wasted time. After-the-fact apologies, such as have appeared in the past, are also very appreciated, but are not as helpful as contemporaneous information would be.

Thanks very much,
-- Al

Re: Please Keep Us Better Informed About Site Status

Again yesterday and today the site has continued to be unavailable to many or all users for several periods of several hours each. Can you tell us something about what is happening, and what we can expect?

Thank you,
-- Al

Re: Please Keep Us Better Informed About Site Status

I agree. Something should be said to the members. I work on cars and trucks and I'm a member of a couple automotive forums and 1 of them is really great for trading knowledge. However, since I joined that only 4 months ago , I put up with all the probs they had for about a month and stayed ,but alot of other new and old members said screw this and left cuz the admin was not telling anyone what was going on. (I also started a thread similar to ctal, but I was so kind in my wording, LOL)Most people even got a virus from the site..Last thing we need here is new people saying screw ABX, "that site is a mess" then passing the word along.

Well said Al. I don't think it's an unreasonable request.

Re: Please Keep Us Better Informed About Site Status

My apologies. There is no excuse for not letting you know what is going on and I take full responsibility.

Over the past year my company has acquired over 70 forums and we have finally raised the financing to do the infrastructure right for all of them. ABXZone was one of the first few that I acquired before I quit my day job to try and create this forum network through CrowdGather.

The move is to a clustered environment designed to provide high availability and fault tolerance. We were hoping to do the move quietly, but a week or so ago we had a hardware crash that left us with no choice, but to start moving as fast as we could.

My email is sanjay at crowdgather dotcom and I am glad to let you vent directly to me if you chose.

My team has committed to me that we will be done by tomorrow evening and that all of the forums will fly after that.

Sanjay
