I write only as an observation.

I joined Asusboards in Oct 2002. I happened upon AsusBoards.com by doing a search on different mobos I was interested in at the time. My first impression of AsusBoards was GREAT. It was a very homely, welcoming atmosphere that I liked. There weren't as many members then, and the one's that had been here awhile before me, were willing to bend over backwards to help with any problem you had. You did not fear the consequences of being labeled a "NOOB" and your "Post" put under a microscope and dissected.

Enter ABXZone.com

The famous "name change" era.

ABXZone is still a Great place, but there is a downside to us now. With popularity, comes a growth of new people in our family. With new people, comes a whole wider range of opinions and ,YES, even the greater chance of a "Bad Apple". Don't get me wrong! There are still more "HELPERS" than "Hinderers & Hecklers". I guess this is to be expected when there is change.

I think ABXZone is just going though "Growing Pains" right now. Given time, the the pains will ease. In the meantime, I think that ALL that are involved in the day-to-day operations of this Family household are doing a GREAT job.

Might it be good idea if there were some stickies which were for video cards for gaming and none gaming also include some recommendations for MBs . These items seem to keep coming up time after time.

I am not talking of a review or rating just a general recommendation maybe for an low end high and middle.

Give 2 or 3 options for each . The Mbs are getting hairier now with amd intel 64 bit sli via sis intel chipsets cpus etc.

Maybe too controversial. Just my 02 worth

any thoughts of putting new items at abxlabs up as news on the front page, or combining the two front pages as one? maybe the news could be shortened a bit and an abxlabs box added. paragons 'abx sentinal' article certainly deserved to be added as news (great stuff btw).

Lightbulb News Items

I don't know if this has been brought up before but could the news items be ranked according to the date? I think the top news items should be new news and not something a week or more older just because someone replied to the thread and bumped it to the top.
Maybe something could show the most replied to news items or something if that interests people but I think current news shouldn't get bumped by old news.

Since the news is current and foremost on the forum at the forum, you might want to discuss the possibility of adding a SecurityNewsPortal Newsticker to the left or right hand side of the front portal.

Another possibility would be to add a virus notification section on the front portal such as the Virus Info Feed from TrendMicro. Foreseeable problems

I'm not sure if ABXLabs is still non-commercial at this time. One additional problem is this may appear to members as if ABXLabs supported TrendMicro. It would be better to find a generalized feed but if it cannot be found -- add a disclaimer so members would know that ABXLabs is not promoting the use of TrendMicro but ABXLabs is promoting the awareness of the current active list of known viruses, trojans and worms by TrendMicro. If another company has this feature, then a decision could be made to include one or both company displays due to different naming structures for the same viruses, etc.. This could be placed below the SecurityNewsPortal.

Granted, both of these links have nothing to do with ABXLabs but both of these links deal with problems members may have to contend with and/or be aware of. While both of these suggestions are not neccesary, I enjoy them since I can see what's out there and happening each day within a few minutes.

Announcement & Info thread subscriptions

One thought I've had is say on the front page or some where in user cp. Members are given the option to generally subscribe to email notification of all information threads (such as this one) and Announcements so if a member is busy and only occasionally visiting ABX they wont miss anything important. Then if they have had enough of a particular thread constantly poping up they can unsubscribe to that one particular thread in the normal way while keeping the general subscription going for all others.

I haven't the slightest clue what you are saying....

I'm confused as what trendmicro (what is it?) has to do with abxlabs?

Anyway... maybe I'm just brainfarting again...

Thought I would chime in with somethng that's very common on the audio/video forums around the Net.

It's possible to parley the huge membership of Asusboards to get one time power buys from manufacturers and retailers looking to promote their products. It works in A/V, there's no reason it shouldn't work here too. I know there is a forum category here for that sort of thing with a couple of pieces of software in it....but with the sheer number of members here, it could be full of offers.

I just took advantage of an anamorphic lens offer made to members of the AVS forum....a great forum btw. While AVS is substantially larger than Asusboards, I've seen these sorts of power buys at forums much smaller. It's a great way for manufacturers to get information about their products into the right hands....and a great opportunity for the potential customer.

Here's AVS's Powerbuy section:

Trend Micro are an Antivirus Company as are Symantec you can buy their antivirus and also if you suspect you have a virus you can scan your PC from the web for free. I thought it was a good suggestion by c_white_wolf as members can be alerted to the latest virus threats as they are discovered

Sorry... completely misread that post.. Yeah, I know TM is another anti-virus supplier.

Personally I don't know... I'm actually not that interested in seeing false antivirus information on the frontpage every single time. I've tried that system on one of our companies' intranets and I got rid of it soon after.

Really... I don't need detailed background info on virusses in my current work position so it could very well be different to someone else.

So if more members like it we could always discuss the possibility!

Is it possible to have the active threads on the front page extend all the way to the bottom of the page, where the news ends? The more posts, the better.

That shouldn't be too hard to do and I don't see a problem with that. I'm not sure if it is a hardcoded number so maybe kONGO can comment on that.

Wish granted in advance, hehe.

I think what you're looking for is forum subscription. This is already possible and you can choose to be notified by email of every new thread posted to any forum!
