Put the threads back on the front page. Other than that, what Bigtoe said.

I agree, I liked the front page better the old way. One thread section for tech, one for OT. News on the side if I recall...

Yea the first thing I do in the morning is go to the Inquirer for the lastest news and gossip and over to ABX and its pretty much the same thing, the old way with the last threads and the news on the side was fine....just my 2 cents...

Having used the current front page for a while now, I will add my support for reverting to the previous style as mentioned.
It placed more importance on the posting content rather than the news.

I probably still have the little vBadvanced hack that allowed people to choose between a favorite page layout and have it saved in a cookie and served when visiting the front page on a HDD somewhere.

I never use the front page myself, so I don't care either way. Layout-wise, it's incredibly inefficient and one could probably fit twice as much information on it compared to today (the whole vBulletin layout stuff is so bulky it's not even funny). Of course, generally the templates and vB code is about as much fun to work with as it is to stab yourself in the eye with a knife dipped in hot sauce.

That sounds pretty yummy bud...
If it still works...you know it seems every time a vb update is done, some of the older hack don't work anymore. So goes progress, eh?

I'm thinking that the front page should be for new people who have just found the site.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I come here via links in the emails or a shortcut to "new posts"

I think we could get some ideas from Hydrogenaudio for the front page layout. Note that they also have an integrated wiki/knowledge base on their site so that could help with getting some more/better content on here. Their site is more specific in terms of topic though (only dealing with audio codecs/software/hardware) so a wiki might not be as suited for ABX.

Re: What can we do to make this place better?

Hello, all

Just a belated thought or two from an old lurker/new member.

Happened to Google ABXZone today and was surprised that 3 of the first 10 hits were references to troubled times a couple years ago -- ancient history. Isn't there an art to 'adjusting' the Google page-ranking?

And might some active builder update Mr Steveo's excellent build instructions? What a traffic-generator that could be!

I realize I'm not stepping up to the plate here myself -- but I recall fondly the good ol days. The talent is still here, and the friendly approach. Got a quick reading by a couple certified psychics just yesterday....
