Cannot Login Screen Flashes at startup

Hello,

Vista Home Premium Dell Inspiron Desktop 530
Processor,E2220,2.4,1MB Pentium
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100
4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz

Windows loads fine until the login screen appears. Screen flashes randomly with an wait time symbol appearing on screen. Mouse is active and I can move it around the screen. It will never reach the time to enter password and display users and will continue to flash.
I tried
Safe mode will lead to the same as above.
Restoring to an earlier point will lead to same problem
low resolution video same problem
System repairs finds no error
Did not try total system restore...

Any ideas??

Thanks

Sounds lieka driver loading problem. If safe mode didn't work and the system restore found no errors it will be difficult to get it working. :s

Do you need to backup any documents before doing a compelte re-installation?

You are probably right about the driver. I hope its that and not a hardware problem. I bought this computer in Dec and according to Dell there warranty is over. I only have basic tech support now. cheap!

It's my in laws computer and they will probably need some documents off it. I believe I can use command prompt in the f8 repair system option to copy items to a thumb drive. I cannot load safe mode with command prompt. It goes to the blinking screen problem.

Maybe, I will try to update drives in command prompt. I just am tired of spending all this time on not my computer.

thanks

One way to do it would be to install Vista; it will create a windows.old folder which you can use to retrieve all documents and data. If you don't have Dell System Discs, you should first go to Dell's Website and download all drivers, and, while you are at it, order the discs. I bought two laptops from Dell back in Nov, ordered the discs last week and received them yesterday.

That's a great plan if the disk has enough space

I found the link.

I had another problem with Dell and they..... told me to stop calling. It was about an AMEX rewards certificate for Dell that wasn't working. I never received such poor customer service before.

Woah! I can't believe any customer service centre would be so rude!!! :o

Hopefully they'll be better with the disks.

I must admit, I have never had any issues with Dell Support and have owned five Dell PCs. You can order the Dell Media from https://support.dell.com/support/top.../backupcd_form

Have you tried repairing the installation from the vista disk?
