| CD/DVD burner not found Hi! I've got a TSST CD/DVDW TS-H652M ATA Device and have been able off and on to burn both. Every once in awhile, like now, it says I have none or I should install one...but when checking, it's there listed with the devices and supposedly working. Please advise, I'm so frustrated with this and must stumble onto a solution accidentally at times but sometimes too, in trying to fix the problem, make things much worse. I did this morning and the computer wouldn't restart until running the auto fix. I'm truly at a loss and technically challenged, is there any hope for me? Thanks! |

| Do you have any burning software or virtual drive software installed? If so, remove it and see if it helps. crabby |

| I'm still trying at every opportunity to get this thing working but it's looking hopeless. Driver is supposedly up to date and the one needed for this but says it's unable to start. Any other possiblities you might suggest? TIA! |

| This is probably cause by third party applications that play media files, like iTune for example. A place to start would be to uninstall any third party application that you use for media files and uninstall the ones you can afford to remove.

| Thanks Felix! One of the kids did download Itunes awhile back and it's one of the things I've deleted trying to fix this problem, but wondering now if there's possibly more or remnants of that one left behind. First thing tomorrow will be looking for the,, thanks again! |

| It is a bad habit, but when I uninstall an application I go to the registry and delete any keys left behind and then select "Show hidden files" for folders option and get rid of any data I can fine for that particular program. Applications tend to leave behind many of their settings, DLL files, etc. It's a bad habit to mess with the registry though because it could easily mess up your PC. Another option that might work is to use a registry cleaner application, but it's not a guaranty. Good luck.

| Thanks again for your thoughtful reply, Felix. I'm so guilty of messing where I shouldn't be messing it should be considered a crime! This thing is driving me crazy and have already fouled another unrelated driver in my bumbling attempts to get it up and working again. Going to take it to the Geek Squad and hopefully they can undo all the damage I've created AND get my burner back too. One thing I've been told is to back all these pictures and videos up on a flash drive and going to do that too. The fear of losing them has turned me into a crazy woman on a mission...without a clue! Thanks again to both of you for all the help. Unfortunately the ID is all too apt and you can't do anything to improve that problem. |

| If everything else fails you may try System Restore and get back to the previous headaches you had before and start all over again. System restore will undo those file deletions you created. To use System Restore just click the Start button > Type "System Restore" in the Search Box and hit Enter > Select a "System Restore" point before "the damage" you "created". You'll be fine. Happy 2009!
