| Default Applications and File Association Issues So I have Vista (yay!) and I'm trying to set Microsoft Word 2007 as my default program when I double click on .doc files. In the control panel, you have two options to set default programs: You can choose to have a program run all the types of files it can, and then you can associate a certain file with a program. In the first option, Word isn't even showing up on the list of programs you can choose as a default. In the second it's a little more confusing. You choose the type of file (in my case, .doc) and then it brings up another screen where you can choose the application. I open that, then open explorer to look for the application. When I double click it to choose Word, it simply won't pop up. I just won't let me choose it as a application to associate with .doc files. I know you can also right click on the document and choose "open with" and that doesn't work either. I like to consider myself pretty computer savvy, and I just can't figure out what the crap is going on. Help? Thanks [= |

| Never had that issue before with Office, but did encountered a similar issue with Acrobat Reader...ended up uninstalling it and then reinstalling it. When you click a .doc file, which program tries to open it? Perhaps that could be the starting point. Another thing you may try is to do an Office Repair Installation, but I doubt that would work.

| Have you tried right clicking the .doc file, going to 'Open with...' selecting 'Word' and ticking the box 'Always use this program to open this file type'? crabby |

| Apparently Brusselsprouts tried the right-click already, judging by the last two sentences at the bottom of the post. My guess is that the installation of the software did not go as well as it should and the OS, which controls the program's operation, has not detected a necessary file. Like mentioned on my reply, Acrobat Reader acted in the same manner at one occasion on my computer and the issue did not go away until I reinstalled the program.
