| Lost files after change of user Hi, I have Windows Vista Basic and lost almost everything that wasn't on my desktop, including documents, pictures, music, and even bookmarks. What I did - in retrospect not the wisest thing to do - was to try to rename the main user (not user account) under which most of my files were. It wouldn't let me, which should have been a very good hint to just stop, but I decided to make a new user folder and move all my files over. The folders (documents, pictures, music, favourites) in the new user folder still exist but they are all empty (with a few exceptions). So it seems that when I moved these folders over from one user folder to another, the files that were in those folders disappeared. The old user folder was of course also empty. The strange thing is that a few of the documents and pictures remained after being moved, even though they were in the same folders as the things that did disappear. When I try to open i-tunes it says the i-tunes folder cannot be found or created. When I go to favourites all the bookmarks are gone, and it won't even let me add new ones. When I try to save documents under the new user, I get an access denied message. So it's not just that the files from the old folder are gone, but somehow the new user folder is not functioning fully. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Does anyone know if it's possible to recover these files? I never deleted any of these files, only moved them, so how could they just disappear? They were also never in the recycle bin. And how do I get the new user to work, so I can save documents again? Right now the only place I can save things are on the desktop. I would be very grateful for any ideas, tips, links to articles, etc. Thank you, Kate |

| Did you move the folders in your 'Personal' folder? because they aren't folders... they are basically links. Your actual files should be in C:/Users under the relevant user crabby |
