| Not booting up properly... :newbie:First of all... Greetings everyone.. I'm new to the sight so if this has been asked before I apologize. Perhaps I'll get some links or some new advice still. ![]() My laptop is still fairly new, not even a year old yet. I am using a Dell Inspiron 1525. Everything was already preloaded as I got it off the Dell website. For the longest time I couldn't figure out what was going on. I couldn't stay connected to the internet, my calendar would come up when it felt like it, not when was suppose to. The network wouldn't show the other two computers half the time. I play an online game and I would just randomly get disconnected from it at least once a day. It would cut me off the internet completely not just the game. I would have to restart the whole computer again. Sleep or hybernate doesn't seem to work, either that, I don't know how they work. (which is possible, never really use em.) Recently, I've watched how the laptop boots up. First time it boots up, it appears to be normal. I'm connected to the internet, things work and so on. .. However, it isn't normal. ... I have a antivirus program that shows it's logo on start up... first start up, this doesn't pop up... my yahoo messenger box is suppose to pop up on start up... this does not come up on the first time either. Short cuts don't blink, calendar doesn't come up.. not connected to the network... i have to restart my laptop and only then does it boot up properly. All the short cuts blink and sink up, it takes a moment or two for the internet to sink in, the virus logo comes up, my calendar comes up when it's suppose to, yahoo box... it all works.. It only works when I restart it though. I've noticed since I've found this out, I have not been disconnected from the internet. It is ... although... getting a bit frustrating to have to turn the laptop on, then turn around and restart it. EVERY SINGLE TIME... It's been like this from the start.. :scared: Any suggestions on what I can possibly do to fix this problem? If anything at all? Thank you for your time. |

| I don't think your issue is software related, but I may be wrong; the best advise I can give you is to contact Dell Support. If your notebook is under warranty, you may want to take care of this issue now than to be charged for the repairs later on.

| It does sound like a very strange problem :scared: It's almost as if on reboot the system correctly reads the registry, but on cold boot it doesn't. I'd do what Felix suggests and get the experts in, it's going to take quite alot of time to pin point the problem... and as it's probably hardware related Dell would be the only ones to fix it anyway. My other question is why you ever put up with this? I would have expected a new computer to work perfectly, and if it didn't it would have gone straight back. crabby |

| thank you for responding. Part of why I have put up with it is because like I said, I couldn't pin point the problem. If I sat there and said I'm having problems staying connected to internet or something, they would give me solutions to that problem. which, husband and I have done most the solutions possible for cases like that. I just recently pin pointed the problem which enables me to get better solutions for it. However, I don't see how can be hardware problem? I've never heard of hardware doing that kind of thing. I will admit I'm not a computer genius, but I know enough to get by. Are cases like this mostly software related somehow? What hardware would be causing this type of issue? I would like to get a better understanding of this problem before I sound like a complete idiot when I call Dell and find out what I need to do. If it's something simple, then great. if not... then... well.. I don't know... ![]() |

| It's very difficult to troubleshoot your issue without gaining access to your notebook and were not computer geniuses either, at least I know I'm not. Dell's technicians should be able to gain access to your system and find the issue. One thing that you can do, if you haven't done so, is to go to Dell's Support website and find any drivers updates for your system. You'll need the tag number that should be on a label beneath the laptop.

| Hardware problems can manifest in such ludicrous ways. Also, it could have been a Vista installation issue (we had quite a few of those in the early days). Felix is right, the technicians should provide the answer if it's in warranty. crabby |
