| Hey guys, HP Pavilion tx1000 family. Running win vista home premium for more than a year now till last week. All a sudden it wont boot normally. When i power off and on, it boots only when i see the wireless indicator turning from amber to blue and back to amber. If it stays at amber - the system doesn't boot - it just stays quiet. I tried booting in safe mode with networking and was able to do the data backup (when the indicator turned blue and gave me a chance!!). Then i restored the system back. It started working fine (sometimes it works fine now). Now, when i put the computer in hibernation and turn on again - the display's going white. And if i restart windows in normal mode, the display works except that its just blank black screen (the fn+f8 for brightness works) and i hear the normal login sounds. Im not sure if its some hardware problem or software (drivers) issue??? Please help. Thanks Winter |

| Hi there! Glad to see you got your other issue fixed The change in the wireless light on your system usually indicates the loading of a driver... you can see this with lots of pieces of hardware, for example optical mice (the flash on then off then on again as their driver loads). So, my first thoughts would be... it's a driver issue. Disable the wireless completely and see what happens. If it seems that it now boots fine, you can try and reinstall the wireless drivers. I would say your 'hibernate' and screen problem are related to the same driver issue. If hibernate can't load the driver it can just freeze, the same with the boot process... as the kernel loads it will get to a point where it just stops when it fails to load the driver, which is why the screen looks on but nothing shows. This damned wireless can get quite annoying! Do you know what chip the card is? crabby |

| Ok... well... I doubt the nvidia wired one is the issue. It's the wireless one we need to look at. Unfortunately, that isn't enough information for me to find the newest drivers for you. You will need to go to: Control Panel -> Device manager. Find the card in Network adaptors and right click it. Go to properties and check the chipset. You can then use the chipset number to get the right driver from here: Broadcom Corporation - Download Drivers I hope a driver reinstall fixes your problem :scared: crabby |

| Hello crabby, Thanks for your suggestions. And sorry for the late reply. The laptop does not start in normal mode anymore, only in safe mode (or in safe mode with networking support). What i understand from going through several forums is that i think this laptop (not windows vista!) has some problems with the motherboard and wireless card. I've contacted HP and a service engg. will be picking up my machine soon. And since its under extended warranty, i think they should be replacing the card and the board. I'll post you guys once the laptop is back to normal. Meanwhile if someone has similar problems, just go through this page and you'll know what exactly is happening. | Hello Crabby, After a couple of weeks of complaining and running behind the HP service men, they've changed the motherboard (for free of cost, since under extended warranty..). Now everything works fine including the wireless.. Oh and btw - i want to have ubuntu alongside vista.. how do i do that without creating any new problems.. maybe ill post this in a new thread.. |
