Drive not reading disc

Just build new system and in trying to install Work Suite 2006 the new sata drive will not read the disc just keeps making a funning noise, but the disc is read by other systems, and the drive reads and burns other discs just fine. The one thing that might play into this is the suite has the MS Dell sticker on the back of cd case. Even tried to copy disc with Nero and the same thing happens goes into the not responding issue and I am running as Admin.

Talking Proprietary Software

Just build new system and in trying to install "Work Suite 2006 "
what is the correct name? I found different-same names from 36.00 to ????

Also propriety software will not install on others systems ... they consider that "Pirating". and since you Built your system and your trying to install DELL software..

Question OEM (store) - Retail - OEM Manufacture

Proprietary Software is like Proprietary OEM OS and such... if the software does not see the correct name in the BIOS... it will not install. That is why as a computer repair/builder company, If you bring in Proprietary Systems for repair, you better bring in the CORRECT SOFTWARE.

Rather hard to fix a Gateway computer if you do not have all the Gateway Software, or Dell, or HP or many of the other Priority Name Brands. ...
You must also remember today OEM from EGGHEAD or TigerDirect is not the same as OEM from Dell, or HP.
This is also why MS is changing the way they will LICENSE... Retail cost more than OEM there is a reason for that... MS supports Retail. but not OEM.

It is Microsofts Work Suite 2006 with product key and everything it just has a Dell logo on the back of the case. I had it installed on my other system with no problem.

If the drive works for other discs, but not for the particular one you mention, then I must agree with Snuffy. However, I must be honest, I've never seen or experience that ever. I just don't see any other explanation.

Exclamation Premium Version works in Vista.

1. Drive 4x or faster CD-ROM drive
2. claims it works on: Microsoft® Works Suite 2006
Operating System: Specs: License qty: 1 user; License type: License and media; Min Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

3. Memory - Windows XP or Windows 2000 SP4: 256 MB of RAM; Windows Millennium Edition or Windows 98 Second Edition: 128 MB of RAM; programs running simultaneously may require additional memory
4. Other - Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 required; Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 is included (installation will not replace your primary browser. This installation may take up to 65 MB additional hard disk space

5. There were proprietary versions..."This product is not available for purchase directly from Microsoft"

6. Found one post says it works on Vista. The Premium Version.
Not standard, Not home, Not Student.

I decided to go with a new version of Work suite 9 and thrught this other disc away thanks for the input. The disc says Made in Canada on it or it is the label thats made in Canada, I got the disc of E-bay awhile back and was not expecting it to be or have any thing about dell on the disc but that is what happens with e-bay sales you live and learn it was 39.00 just like the new disc is costing from MS Marketplace.

So you think the issue was with your previous CD? Do you still have it and had you tried to install it on another PC? By the way, I'm glad you have Work install.

I'm curious; why would you rather install work over other Office Suite?

I have always used the suites with work and office with home publishing and money plus streets and trips plus the suite 2006 was the 8.5 version which I finally got to install on this one system by coping all the data off the DVD to my other system and then burning a new DVD of the data and then installing on the system that was giving me the problem solving that big problem.

I see. I have never use Works, though I have acopy that came with my eMachine computer. How does Vista and Works get alone? I used money before, but it was overkill for me; too much data. I created an Excel workbook and it works great to keep my fanance straight.

If you get tired of Works, try IBM Symphony. It works great, almost like MS Office and is free.
